Why I Don't Like Or Recommend The Roman's Road
John 20:31, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
Our text passage of Scripture gives the plain reason why I do not like or recommend the Roman's Road method of leading a lost sinner to Christ. God specifically authored the Gospel of John to convince the reader that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, the Christ, so that by believing we will be saved. God didn't write the Epistle of Romans to show us how to get to Heaven, that is why He gave us the Gospel of John. Why use the wrong tool for the job?
John 1:29, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” In John chapters 19 and 20 we read about Jesus' death on the cross, burial and physical resurrection three days later. That's everything anyone needs to know to be saved. You are a SINNER and Jesus is the SAVIOR!
John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”
The Problem Of Using The Book Of Romans
There's much debate today over obscure passages of Scripture in Romans 10:9-10 and 13.
Some Bible students claim that Romans chapter 10 is about the future physical restoration of the nation of Israel, and that the passage has nothing to do with the eternal salvation of a sinner. I reject that theory!
Others claim that you cannot be saved unless you confess Christ publicly (Romans 10:9-10), and pray a sinner's prayer (Romans 10:13). But John 12:42-43 refutes that heresy concerning Romans 10:9-10. And Romans 10:14 refutes that heresy concerning Romans 10:13 that you must pray to be saved. You don't have to "confess" the name of Jesus publicly to be saved, just as the saved Chief Priests did not confess Christ in John 12:42-43. And according to Romans 10:14 we are saved at the moment we BELIEVE, regardless of whether we pray or choose not to pray. You don't have to ask God to save you, you just need to believe.
The Epistle of Romans has caused much confusing regarding how to be saved. And although we do read helpful Scripture passages in many books of the Bible concerning salvation, it would be foolish to ignore the Gospel of John, or supersede it with other books of the Bible, when God specifically authored the book of John to show us the way of salvation. John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
I mean, you could use a screwdriver and hammer to make a hole, but why not use the drill that God intended for you to use? Why use a spoon to cut a block of cheese instead of a sharp knife? Would you use a pair of scissors to cut your lawn's grass, while a power mower sits in the garage? God used the Apostle John to pen the Gospel of John for the specific purpose “that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31b). So, why use any other book of the Bible?2nd Corinthians 11:3 speaks of “the simplicity that is in Christ.” I am so sick and tired of men complicating God's simple plan of salvation. The Gospel of John is very clear that we are saved simply by believing on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, simply by accepting His sacrificial death on Calvary's cross as full payment for our sins, believing that He was buried, but then resurrected physically from the dead three days later. This is "the gospel" according to 1st Corinthians 15:1-6. Believe it, oh sinner, and the work is done!
The beauty of God's simple plan of salvation is that in the Scripture we're never given a level of faith that has to be reached in order to go to Heaven. Isn't that wonderful? If your only hope for Heaven is Jesus Christ for what He did through Calvary's cross 2,000 years ago to pay your debt of sin, you are saved.

We Are Saved By Christ's Obedience, Not By Works

Don't Let People Confuse You About Your Salvation
I kept wondering if I left something out when I prayed the sinner's prayer. Since I couldn't remember what I had prayed, I worried. So, I started asking for God to save me again and again and again, probably 50 times at least over those 4 miserable years. I would read religious tracts line by line, and carefully agree with each point, and then I would pray again and ask God to save me, as directed in the tract. I would then tell myself that I am saved, but it just didn't resolve my fears, worry and tears. What if I missed Heaven? What if I ended up burning in Hell forever? I was terrified.
So, I mustered up the courage one school day to go talk to my pastor, with the teacher's permission. I remember as I approached his office door that it felt like I was going to talk to God. I knocked on his door and he welcomed me into his office, and I told him of my concerns, fear and inability to settle my assurance. He assumed that since I didn't know I was saved, it surely must mean that I wasn't. Respectfully said, that was his first blunder.
Then my pastor made his second big blunder. He did the worst possible thing he could have done, he led me in another sinner's prayer. Oh boy, that was the whole problem! He prayed and I followed after him, and he assured me that I was saved. But I went home scared, still uncertain if I was really saved. He called my parents to tell them I had received Christ that day, and then he announced to the entire church congregation the following Sunday that I got saved. Now that everyone thought I was saved, I was afraid to tell anyone that I still feared that I wasn't. I felt trapped in my miseries of uncertainty that I was saved. I did trust Jesus with all my heart, mind and soul as my Savior, but I just couldn't find the peace that I was saved. In hindsight, I was afraid of something that I did not fully understand, and that stupid sinner's prayer was hindering me from learning what I needed to know.
My Dad was a preacher, who water baptized me weeks after my pastor assumed that I was saved, because he led me in another sinner's prayer. But I still remember how scared I was on the day I was baptized, thinking about Would I be damned for getting baptized, still not knowing if I am saved? I felt trapped and went ahead with the baptism, but I was still worried and uncertain about my salvation.
Although Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001) preached some great sermons, and he was correct on the gospel, he strongly promoted using the sinner's prayer, which obscured the truth FOR ME and prevented me from resolving my issue. Ironically, I have heard more helpful sermon by Brother Hyles since I have graduated (especially over the past 10 years), than all my time in Bible college. I was so busy laboring in the 'B' Bus Ministry, working various secular jobs, providing for my family, et cetera, that I missed most of Dr. Hyles' sermons while in college. I taught a Sunday School class every Sunday morning, and I worked on Wednesday evenings, so I was only able to hear Brother Hyles Sunday evenings.
I am forever grateful to the folks at Florida Bible College and Calvary Community Church in Tampa, whose godly pastors' A. Ray Stanford (1916-2012), Hank Lindstrom (1940-2008), Max D. Younce (1935-2023) and Ralph Yankee Arnold have opened my eyes to the clarity of the gospel. I cherish this quote...
“There is power in this Gospel message. Most people just don't know how to present it... The clarity of the Gospel is what makes it easy for them to believe.”—Pastor Yankee Arnold, “WHY GRACE CAN SAVE THE WORST MAN!”
Furthermore, a lost sinner should never have to walk down a church aisle to learn how to be saved. Dr. Younce addresses this primary problem in his book. Preachers who require people to walk an aisle are adding an unnecessary step to God's simple plan of salvation. Likewise, no one should ever be required to pray a sinner's prayer to be saved, when God is already freely offering eternal life as a gift to whosoever simply believes that Jesus did it all for them.
That all being said, I DO NOT use the sinner's prayer anymore, and have not used it for twenty years; but if I did use it, I would absolutely make sure to explain that prayer is not required to be saved. For the ungodly toxic New IFB (Independent Fundamental Baptist) movement to mandate a sinner's prayer to get to Heaven is utter theological incompetence. They are deliberately obscuring the gospel with manmade garbage. John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”

Can A Person Be Saved And Still Pray To Mary?
In my humble opinion, praying to Mary will not prevent you from going to Heaven, if you are solely trusting what Jesus did on Calvary's cross to pay for your sins—believing that He died, was buried, but then physically resurrected from the dead three days later. This is “the gospel,” the 'Good News,' by which all who believe it are instantly, irrevocably and forever saved (Romans 1:16). Faith is the only righteous thing that I can do.
That being said, Jesus is the ONLY Mediator between God the Father and humanity. 1st Timothy 2:5-6, “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” So, if you do pray to Mary, you are just wasting your time and going against the plain teaching of inspired Scripture. Mary was a sinner, just like everyone else, and she has no special power of influence with the Son of God. To pray to Mary is the horrible sin of idolatry.
Roman Catholicism is a prisonhouse of false religion. The wicked Vatican has sinfully fabricated many false teachings concerning Mary in an effort to venerate (worship) her. Mary was not immaculately born, she had a human mother and father.
Getting back to the question question about praying to Mary. It is a sin. Praying to anyone other than members of the Godhead (Trinity) is the evil of idolatry. Catholic leaders are so evil that they've even removed God's second commandment from His Ten Commandments, which forbids bowing to graven images. It is perfectly acceptable to pray to either or all members of the Godhead, in lieu of the fact that there is only one true and living God (Deuteronomy 6:4).
It is difficult for me to comprehend how any thinking person could join such an obvious hoax of a religion. Reports indicate that since 1950, approximately 216,000 children have been sexually abused by clergy in the French Catholic Church alone, with similar patterns observed in other countries, including the United States. The issue has been widely documented, revealing systemic failures in addressing and reporting these abuses. All toll, MILLIONS of defenseless children worldwide have been sexually preyed upon by deranged Catholic leaders. And yet, wicked parents continue to feed their precious children to these wolves in sheep's clothing under the guise of religion.
I cannot warn you enough to steer clear of the deadly cults of Roman and Russian Orthodox Catholicism. They have different headquarter locations (Rome, Italy and Moscow, Russia), but they serve the same boss, Satan (2nd Corinthians 11:13-15). The Devil is a beautiful liar! Catholicism is of the Devil. We should never pray to patron saints like St. Anthony (his statue is often displayed with his dog) because the Bible strictly forbids it.
When I lived on the island of Guam for 17 years, I was at my neighbour's house one day and his wife invited some ladies over from their Catholic parish down the street (St. Jude's). At their parish they passed a 3-foot tall statue of Our Lady of Fatima around from house to house, where it stayed at each house for a couple months. Each family would decorate their living room as if God Himself were coming to visit. I saw that wicked group of women bow in prayer to that Satanic statue in idolatry, and I got out of there as fast as I could, because I could feel the Devil's presence. Idolatry is a horrible sin, which brings God's judgment.Revelation 22:8-9, “And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.”
I humbly believe it is possible for a Christian to foolishly pray to Mary in ignorance. However, if a person is genuinely born again, the indwelling Holy Spirit will convict that individual about the present sins in their life, including praying to Mary (Hebrews 12:6-8). God is not an absent parent. He will chastise His children. The inspired Word of God is abundantly clear that we are only to pray to the Father in Jesus' name. Someone has said that as believers we pray to the Father, through the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit. I like that teaching.
That is what 1st Timothy 2:5 means. Man is sinful. God the Father is holy and perfect. Man was unable to fellowship with God, so Jesus (God the Son) came into the world to die on a cross 2,000 years ago to gap the bridge between man and God the Father. Now that Jesus is risen from the dead and has ascended into Heaven as our intercessory High Priest (Romans 8:32; Hebrews 4:14-16), we can access the Father's throne of grace at any time night or day 365.25 days a year. So, there is absolutely no need to pray to Mary. Again, to do so is fruitless. Mary cannot do anything to answer our prayers. Catholics have the weird idea that since Mary is Jesus earthly mother that she has special power of influence with Christ, but that is not true. Even Jesus downplayed such foolish thinking.
Matthew 12:47-50, "Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."In this passage, Jesus plainly showed that his mother doesn't carry any special power of influence with Him. Jesus clearly said that whosoever obeys the will of the Father (to believe on Him - John 6:40) is equal to His mother. So, people who sinfully pray to Mary might as well pray to you or me. Mary is nothing with God. She was a dirty sinner, although a virtuous young woman as well. Mary needed to trust Jesus as her personal Savior too, or she would have gone to burn in hell forever. Thankfully, Mary did trust Jesus, calling Him “my Saviour” in Luke 1:47. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

“Dilbert” Cartoonist Scott Adams' Strange Deathbed Letter
"Dilbert" cartoonist Scott Adams has died at the age of 68, issuing a posthumous statement (I made a backup of Scott's latter from X, just in case it vanishes or you don't have an X account) declaring his decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
In a livestream following his death on Tuesday, Adams' ex-wife Shelly Miles shared the statement he prepared before passing away.
“I had an amazing life,” the statement said in part. “I gave it everything I had.”
"Next, many of my Christian friends have asked me to find Jesus before I go. I'm not a believer, but I have to admit the risk-reward calculation for doing so looks so attractive to me. So here I go: I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and look forward to spending an eternity with him. The part about me not being a believer should be quickly resolved if I wake up in heaven. I won't need any more convincing than that. I hope I'm still qualified for entry..."
Adams revealed in May that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of metastatic prostate cancer.
WATCH: 'I Accept Jesus': 'Dilbert' Cartoonist's Final Message Before His Death
In John 6:47, Jesus promises eternal life only to those who BELIEVE ON HIM, not to those who merely say they believe on him while openly admitting that they DON'T BELIEVE. What a bizarre thing to write! I humbly do not think Scott Adams died in the Lord (Revelation 14:13), simply because he plainly stated that he DOES NOT BELIEVE in Jesus. I sadly think Scott died in his sins, because he refused to believe who Jesus claimed to be (John 8:24).
In Mark 9:24 a distraught father of a demon possessed child cried out to Jesus, “๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฑ, ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ; ๐ต๐ฒ๐น๐ฝ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐๐ป๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐ณ.” If the father had instead said: “Sir, I don't believe, help me to believe,” Christ wouldn't have healed his son. Jesus plainly said in verse 23, “๐๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ, ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ผ ๐ต๐ถ๐บ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐๐ต.” The promise is to them that CANST BELIEVE, not to those who CANNOT BELIEVE. The miraculous new birth is not obtained by declaring some optimistic religious words from a heart of unbelief.
I can only hope that Scott Adams poorly chose his words, and what he really meant was that despite his lack of faith in Christ, he was choosing to trust Him anyway as his personal Savior. God will save any doubter who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ. It's okay to have doubt, just so long as you act upon what little faith you have. We see this truth confirmed in Mark 9:24, when Jesus healed the son of the man who had doubts. Jesus healed the boy because the man TRUSTED Jesus despite his doubts.
To help you dear reader understand how faith works, I like to use the illustration of a chair. Let's say for the sake of argument that you don't have a ladder. A ceiling lightbulb burned out and you need to replace it. You need something to stand upon to reach the lightbulb. So you use an old chair that looks shaky. You are not sure if the chair will support your weight if you stand upon it. In fact, you are very concerned. Yet, since that's the only thing you have at hand to stand on, you put your trust in that wobbly old chair.

If It's Not In Writing, It Means Nothing
Romans 3:4, “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.”
Our text Bible passage teaches for all men to LET GOD BE TRUE, BUT EVERY MAN A LIAR. That naturally raises the $64,000 question: “How do we know what God says, versus what man says?” The answer is the Holy Bible. Jesus Himself exhorted everyone in John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
I was listening to false prophetess' Joyce Meyer earlier today. She is very WRONG on God's simple plan of salvation, instead preaching another gospel:
“When you're born-again, you admit that you're a sinner. You ask God to forgive your sins. And you invite Him to come and live in your heart. You must be willing to turn away from sin. You don't just receive and kind of tack Him on to your mess like a magic charm. You'd have to be willing to turn away from sin. You can't do it on your own. But if you're willing to do it, God will help you and He will teach you how to live the way that He wants you to live.” [emphasis added] —Joyce Meyer, “How Do I Get To Heaven” (13:36 time in video)
Joyce Meyer further heretically teaches:
“If you've never received Christ as your Savior. You've never invited Him to come into your life. You've never come to that point of saying, 'I am a miserable sinner, and God I do need you, I cannot help myself.' Then you need to surrender tonight—and that's really what it's all about—it's about surrender! It's about letting God get into the driver's seat of your life. It's about you discontinuing trying to run the show, and telling God what all your plans are. It's you giving Him the reigns, and saying: 'You lead and I'll follow.'” [emphasis added] —Joyce Meyer, “How Do I Get To Heaven” (22:00 time in video)
Now dear friend, I triple-dog dare you to show me any of the garbage theology which Joyce Meyer preaches from the inspired King James Bible. Remember, if it's not in writing it means absolutely nothing! Where did Miss Meyer get all that junk? She sure didn't find it in the Holy Bible!!! I cannot warn everyone enough to mark and avoid Joyce Meyer and her circus of a pathetic ministry (Romans 16:17-18; Matthew 7:15). She just pulls manmade commandments out of her hate, fully rejecting the Word of God. Mark 7:7 and 8, “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. ...And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.” Joyce Meyer is making stuff up!
Show me where the inspired Holy Bible teaches to be saved, we must:
- Follow Christ
- Invite Jesus to come and life in your heart
- Be willing to turn away from your sin
- Discontinue trying to run the show
- Give God the reigns of control of your life
- Surrender
- Let God get into the driver's seat of your life
- You lead, I'll follow
1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
- Christ DIED on the cross to pay for our sins.
- He was BURIED.
- Three days later Jesus bodily RESURRECTED from the dead.
Galatians 1:6-9, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
John 6:26-29, “Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”
Again, carefully notice that the Apostle Paul emphasizes the written Word of God:
Romans 10:11-13, “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Paul is citing an Old Testament passage from Isaiah 28:16 in Romans 10:11. This verse is not saying that if you are saved you won't be ashamed of Jesus' name. Peter was ashamed, even denying and cursing the Lord's precious name. In Acts 10:42-43 the Bible says many chief rulers believed on Jesus, but they did not confess Him for fear of the wicked Pharisees. The Bible says that those saved chief rulers loved the praise of men more than God. But they were still redeemed adopted sons of God by faith in Christ (Galatians 3:26).
I have humbly shown you numerous Scripture passages, which plainly teach that we are saved by faith alone in the Good News of Christ crucified, buried and risen. None of these Scripture passages require that someone surrender control of their life over to God, nor that someone turn away from their sins, nor that we invite Jesus to come into our life. Judas became a Christ follower and went to burn in the fires of Hell forever! Matthew 27:3 says that Judas “repented himself” of his sins, but that didn't convert him into a Christian. You don't get saved by doing ANY of the things which Joyce Meyer sinfully preaches. The Devil loves Miss Meyer, because the unsaved religious masses are being blinded with a counterfeit plan of salvation, which does not match the Bible's plan of salvation.
Acts 10:43, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” Dear reader, only YOU personally can determine what you believe to be THE TRUTH. I am not asking you to believe me. I am asking you to compare what I have plainly shown you from the inspired Word of God, to what Joyce Meyer is teaching. What is the basis of her fraudulent theological claims? She sure didn't get those ideas from the Bible. Romans 3:4, “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.” If what I am preaching agrees with the written Word of God, then my preaching against Joyce Meyer as a false prophet will be vindicated and justified someday in eternity. Any doctrinal opinion that disagrees with God's opinion is heresy!
Here is a great quote from Dr. Curtis Hutson:“Faith and repentance are the same; they are not two separate decisions. One cannot trust Christ as Savior without repenting or changing his mind. The very fact that he trusts Christ for salvation shows that he has changed his mind regarding sin, salvation, and God.” —Pastor Curtis Hutson (1934-1995); 'Salvation Crystal Clear'Dear reader, YOU HAVE GOD'S PROMISE IN WRITING in the Bible!!! John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” That is a solemn promise from God. Anyone who puts their faith (trust, confidence, reliance) in the only begotten Son of God, is saved. The garbage which Miss Joyce Meyer is preaching has no authority behind it. She is talking trash!

Don't Muddy The Gospel
Don't muddy the Gospel. Explain it simply so it can be understood by the hearer.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most significant element of the Christian faith.Needless to say, the Gospel should be preached at church and I firmly believe at every occasion. The Apostle Paul separated himself from others according to the clear Gospel message of Christ (Rom. 1:1). The Gospel is where he divided himself from another. The clear Gospel message should be the foundation of where a church stands. If one does not get the Gospel saving message correct (Rom. 1:16), then they are likely to err in other understandings of Scripture. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is His sinless shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection as the full substitute payment which saves a sinner from eternal damnation when believed by faith. If the Gospel is tampered with at all and not explained vividly, it can lose its saving effect. Notice the verses below.“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.” - 1 Corinthians 1:17“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” - 2 Corinthians 11:3“Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.” - Galatians 5:4This is a harsh reality, and a real tragedy which is going on in many Christian churches today. Every Bible-believing church should give a clear presentation of the Gospel and invitation to accept Jesus Christ alone as Savior by personal faith.I’m a stickler for a clear presentation of the Gospel.Salvation is not a sinner promising to turn from sin, sorrow for sin, or giving their life/heart to Jesus so that He will save them. Salvation has nothing to do with our promises or gifts to Christ. Salvation is simply us accepting Jesus’ satisfactory payment on the cross of Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. We simply trust in Jesus alone to save us (Acts 16:31, Rom. 4:5, 1 Cor. 15:1-4, Eph. 2:8-9).Jesus gave His life for us (Gal. 1:4, 1 Tim. 2:6, Tit. 2:14); we don’t give anything to Christ for salvation.“I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain” (Gal. 2:21).If we make salvation about us or something we promise to do for God, then salvation is no longer a gift, but we earned it (Rom. 4:16, 11:6). A sinner must understand they have nothing to offer Christ, but simply trust in Him alone to save them by accepting His substitutionary payment for their sins.I do not believe I am splitting hairs because as seen from numerous Scripture above, the Apostle Paul was just as dogmatic.

God's Simple Plan Of Salvation
Since the beginning of human civilization, the Devil has tried to tempt humans to disobey God. The Devil's name is Satan, who fell from his lofty position as one of God's archangels in Heaven. In Ezekiel 28:11-17 we find what is called in theology, “Double Fulfillment.” That is, this passage of Scripture has two parallel applications. Although Ezekiel 28:11-17 is speaking about the king of Tyrus, it also describes Lucifer and his fall from glory. We see another example of Double Fulfillment in Hebrews chapter 7, which speaks of Melchisedec. This passage is also clearly about the precious Lord Jesus Christ, who is without beginning or end, the King of Righteousness (Hebrews 7:1-4).
So how do you get born again? What does that even mean? Well, the Bible says that when Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, death passed upon all men. Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.” Every human being born into this world since Adam, has been born with an inherent sinful nature. It is a part of who we are as humans. Children do not need to be taught how to lie, cheat and do wrong; they need to be trained up to tell the truth, be honest and to always do what is right.
Romans 3:18-20, “There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
“If you do not put a difference between justification wrought by the man Christ without and sanctification wrought by the Spirit of Christ within, you are not able to divide the Word aright; but contrariwise, you corrupt the Word of God, and cast stumbling blocks before the people.” —Evangelist John Bunyan
“There is a vast difference between coming to Jesus for salvation and coming after Jesus for service. Coming to Christ makes one a believer, while coming after Christ makes one a disciple. All believers are not disciples. To become a believer one accepts the invitation of the Gospel, to be a disciple one obeys the challenge to a life of dedicated service and separation. Salvation comes through the sacrifice of Christ; discipleship comes only by sacrifice of self and surrender to His call for devoted service. Salvation is free, but discipleship involves paying the price of a separated walk. Salvation can't be lost because it depends upon God's faithfulness, but discipleship can be lost because it depends upon our faithfulness.” —Pastor M.R. DeHaan, Hebrews. Zondervan Publishing House, 1959 (p. 117)
“The Gospel is not a call to repentance, or to amendment of our ways, to make restitution for past sins, or to promise to do better in the future. These things are proper in their place, but they do not constitute the Gospel; for the Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed, it is good news to be believed. Do not make the mistake then of thinking that the Gospel is a call to duty or a call to reformation, a call to better your condition, to behave yourself in a more perfect way than you have been doing in the past …Nor is the Gospel a demand that you give up the world, that you give up your sins, that you break off bad habits, and try to cultivate good ones. You may do all these things, and yet never believe the Gospel and consequently never be saved at all.”SOURCE: Harry A. Ironside, from the sermon: What Is The Gospel?
One of my favorite authors is Michael P. Bowen. In his excellent defense of the Christian faith titled, 'I NEVER KNEW YOU,' Michael Bowen writes these wonderful words:
I am at eternal odds with the false, counterfeit messages of salvation-by-works that are taught from virtually every pulpit today, on every television channel, and on every Christian radio station; however, I am not at eternal odds with the individuals who preach these counterfeit messages. My heart literally goes out to all of them because they simply do not understand Christ’s plan of salvation. They have been lied to by a crafty enemy named Satan, whose sole aim is to take as many people with him to the lake of fire as he can possibly manage to steal away from God using a counterfeit plan of salvation that appears so real, so genuine, and so holy that few ever realize they have been deceived by it. Oh reader, so many of today’s professing Christians who think they are going to heaven when they die are not going to make it to heaven as they had assumed because they’ve been lied to by today’s error-filled gospel messages.SOURCE: Michael Patrick Bowen, 'I NEVER KNEW YOU,' p. 17; © 2009, Xulonpress.com. A tree without fruit is still a tree with roots. This is evidenced by the parable of the sower and the seed in Luke 8:12-15. Of the four groups, only the first group are unsaved, because the Devil removed the seed from their soul before it could sprout into new life. The second and third groups represent believers who never mature to bear fruit (leading others to Christ). They never matured into fruit-bearing Christians, because of their shallow roots; or because as with the third group, they become choked by the cares, riches and pleasures of this life. Ah, but the fourth group matured, having a good and honest heart the Bible says, keeping the Lord's Word, bearing much fruit unto Christ (cf., John 15:1-7). Just because the second and third groups didn't bear fruit, didn't mean they were not saved (as Ray Comfort errantly teaches).
