Matthew 20:25-28, “But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Strong spiritual leadership is woefully lacking in today's churches and Bible colleges. Sadly, we've got a bunch of clowns running the churches into the ground. You're average pastor cannot even explain repentance correctly, thinking in error that it means to turn away from your sinful bad habits. Repentance is a change mind, not a change of behavior!
Here are some edifying preacher's quotes about leadership...
- “Everything rises and falls on leadership” —Pastor Lee Roberson (1909-2007)
- "God never leads anyone anywhere for money." —Dr. Jack Hyles (1926-2001)
- "Nobody is fit to be leader unless he would rather be a follower instead of a leader." —Dr. Jack Hyles
- "The leader must be alone while others are with each other." —Dr. Jack Hyles
- "Real leaders would rather follow." —Dr. Jack Hyles
- "The follower is as important as the leader." —Dr. Jack Hyles
- "Leadership is made for service." —Dr. Jack Hyles
- "Leadership is forced on a man who is prepared but unaware." —Dr. Jack Hyles
- "Leadership always has to be learning." —Dr. Jack Hyles
- "The wise follower will want to build strong leaders." —Dr. Jack Hyles
The following are invaluable resources from Pastor Jack Hyles about leadership...
“Leaders And Followers,” chapter 14 from Pastor Jack Hyles' book, “How to Treat Different Types of Church Members.”
“Leadership,” chapter 9 from Pastor Hyles' helpful book, “Strength and Beauty.”
“Real Leadership”
“Three Kinds Of Leadership”
“The Analysis Of A Leader”
“When Leadership Clashes With Leadership”
“You've Got To Lead Your Leader To Lead”
Here is a Wednesday night Bible study from Pastor Hyles' series on “The Science Of The Christian Life.” This particular Bible study is called, “The Science Of Leadership.”
True leadership requires a servant's heart. Mark 10:44, “And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.” No one who desires to lead is fit to lead. True leaders would rather be followers laboring in the background to help in any way they can. The worst leaders are those who were promoted for the wrong reasons.
Anyone who is familiar with the secular workplace knows that there are two sides: Labor (represented by worker's unions) and Management (the company). It is common for companies to promote troublesome employees in the labor force to management, to rid them of a problem. Sadly, that is not a proper nor good way to fill managerial positions. In my humble opinion, over 95% of people in management positions are not competent or qualified. That sadly includes pastors.
