John 3:1-3, “There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Sadly, The Beach Boys beach band genius and cofounder Brian Wilson (1942-2025) died on June 11th. He was 82 years old. I admit that I am a big fan of The Beach Boys music. My favorite song by them is “Wouldn't It Be Nice” from their 1966 'Pet Sounds' album. I am sad, not because Brian died, but because by all indications Mr. Wilson went to Hell.
Jesus Himself said in John 3:3 that no one can enter into God's kingdom without being born again. To be “born again” does NOT refer to a radical change in one's life, as Ray Comfort foolishly preaches. The Bible teaches that when Adam sinned, he opened the floodgate of sin and death upon the world (Romans 5:12). Hence, every human being since Adam has been born spiritually dead, alienated from God. This is why we all must be born anew by the Holy Spirit of God.
Dear reader, it is not enough to become religious to get to Heaven. It is not enough to get water baptized. It is not enough to make every effort to turn away from your sinning. It is not enough to pray, fast, tithe, sing in a choir, join a church or do good works. The Bible calls all of these things, DEAD WORKS (Hebrews 6:1). The only way to get to Heaven is through childlike faith (trust, reliance) in Jesus Christ, who is the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
I have done much research about the man Brian Wilson. I haven't found even the slightest evidence that he ever placed his faith in Jesus Christ. There are lame websites that claim Mr. Wilson was a Christian, but with no support for such false claims. Dear friend, NO ONE is a Christian merely because they believe in God. James 2:19, “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” Even the demons believe in God! So what if Brian Wilson believed in God? The $64,000 question is did Brian Wilson get born again before he breathed his last breath on earth? I seriously doubt that he did.
We are living in a very wicked world (1st John 5:19). At nearly every funeral you will hear the lying words concerning the deceased, “He is in a better place now.” What saith the Scripture? Luke 13:23-24, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” The inspired Holy Bible teaches that only a FEW people will make it to Heaven, as compared to the vast multitudes who are travelling the Highway to Hell (Matthew 7:13-15). Unless you become born again dear reader, you will spend eternity burning in Hell day and night without rest or hope (Revelation 14:11).
I have had several ministry website visitors ask me lately about demon possession. A common question asked is whether a Christian can be demon possessed. The answer is absolutely, no! According to 1st Corinthians 3:16-17, the believer's body is the temple of the indwelling Holy Spirit. A demon cannot cohabit with God's Holy Spirit in a saint's body. However, as we read in 1st Chronicles 21:1, Satan can provoke a Christian to commit sin.
That being said, it is common knowledge that Brian Wilson heard voices from within for most of his adult life, which may in fact have been demon possession. Brian said the voices spoke evil things to him, which he told to leave. To clarify, I am not saying that Mr. Wilson had devils in him. The truth is that we simply don't know. Few people would think of The Beach Boys as being involved with witchcraft, but they certainly were:
"We were doing witchcraft, trying to make witchcraft music." —Brian Wilson quoted in Nick Kent's, 'The Dark Stuff' (p. 27)In an interview, 'Backtalk with Brain Wilson' by H. Andrew Schwartz, The Beach Boy's band member Brain Wilson states...
"Well, spirituality amounts to love with me. I consider it the same as love. And my band members are full of love."
"Music that is Godlike and loving gets through. I don’t have any power in this world, but I have spiritual power. I think God gave me my music and my talent. I’m trying to get across a feeling of spirituality; I think I have a spiritual influence on people."
Band members full of love? The band broke up multiple times and eventually hated each other so much that they publicly slandered and sued each other. That's not love! That being said, I agree with Brian that God gave him his talent. I also agree that through his music he spiritually influenced people. However, none of that means he became a born again Christian!
I hope with all of my heart that Brain went to Heaven, but I see absolutely zero evidence that he did. His life was that of a broken man who was devoid of faith in God. Brian Wilson's life story is as bizarre, weird and strange as it gets—from talk of evil voices afflicting him for half a century, to his chronic fear of water as lead singer of The Beach Boys. I am fully convinced that Mr. Wilson didn't believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Just because he wrote the popular song, “God Only Knows” 59 years ago in 1966 doesn't make him a born again believer.
John 3:3b, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
