Why Couldn't Esau Find Repentance?

Hebrews 12:14-17, Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.”

Some false teachers use this passage to show that it is possible to cross a line with God, to where He refuses to save you. That is heresy! This passage of Scripture is not talking about getting saved; but rather, if we fail to live a Christlike life in the presence of others, who view our manner of life, they may go to Hell because of our poor testimony. If we are not careful to live a godly life, we may become a root of bitterness, poisoning those around us.

Hebrews 12:17b, for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.” The reason why Esau couldn't find repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears, is simply because it was too late. A mother who gets an abortion can later regret her decision. She can weep, wail and gnash her teeth in regret. She can pray morning, noon and night for God to bring her butchered baby back to life, but it is too late!

It is more than coincidental, I humbly think, that God mentioned Esau's fateful bad decision, along with living a holy life as a testimony for others to see. One day we must all give account to God for our life. That is what the parable Jesus told in Matthew 25:24-30, about the faithful and unfaithful servants, is all about—accountability. Every individual human being will one day in eternity stand before God and be held accountable. We will be held accountable by God for our words (Matthew 12:36), for our thoughts (Proverbs 24:12) and for our behavior (Ecclesiastes 12:14). But it will be TOO LATE then, to go back and relive our life upon the earth.

Dear friend, I challenge you TODAY, to start living for ETERNITY if you haven't been doing so. That is what the inspired Holy Bible means in 1st Timothy 6:12, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” If you are  born again believer, then good night friend, what are you waiting for, get busy serving God! Start laying up treasures in Heaven (Matthew 6:19-20). Start sharing the Gospel with lost sinners to win souls (Daniel 12:2-3). How tragic it will be for millions of believers in eternity, who will look back with resentment and tears upon their time on earth, realizing that they missed a grand opportunity to win people to Jesus Christ.

Like Esau, it will be too late in Heaven, and you can cry all the tears you want then, but you won't be able to go back in time to rectify the matter. Oh yes, the tears will flow at the Judgment Seat Of Christ (2nd Corinthians 5:9-11). 2nd Corinthians 5:11, “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.”

Every Christian has a responsibility to share the 'GOOD NEWS' (Gospel) of Jesus Christ crucified, buried and bodily risen the third day for the dead (1st Corinthians 15:1-6; Matthew 28:19-20). The Great Commission is not just for the clergy, but for every child of God. Sadly, The Great Commission has become 'The Great Omission' in 99% of churches today! There is no desire to win souls. There is no scheduled time for church members to go soulwinning, knocking on doors, going from house to house (Acts 20:20).

Dear reader, you just may be the only Jesus that somebody knows. Matthew 5:14-16, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Please don't allow this temporary life to choke, frighten, discourage or sidetrack you, to cause you not to spiritually mature into the soulwinner which God intended for you to be. That is what the parable of The Sower And The Seeds in Luke 8:11-15 is all about—bearing fruit as a soulwinner! It's not too late friend!

And let my also say, that if you are not saved it is never too late to get saved, just so long as you are still here on earth. 2nd Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” The Lord wants everyone to be saved, but you have to make that choice. John 5:40, “And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” If you go to Hell someday, it will be your own fault alone. 2nd Timothy 2:13, “If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.”
