Genesis 3:1-6, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
There are so many helpful and practical lessons which can be learned from the Old Testament book of Genesis. I absolutely love the book of Genesis. I encourage your dear friend to listen to the entire book of Genesis as read by Alexander Scourby (1913-1985). You can hear the entire book of Genesis in just 3:29 hours. Wow, that is so awesome!!!
The true story of the serpent (Satan according to Revelation 20:2) beguiling Eve in the paradisiacal Garden of Eden is an astounding account. The Bible teaches that Eve was deceived, not Adam:
1st Timothy 2:11-15, “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.”
In the preceding Scriptures passage, the Bible gives two reasons why women are to submit to their own husbands, remain silent regarding church matters, not teach men in the church and not usurp (take control of) authority over men: 1) Adam was made first, then Eve; 2) Eve was deceived, not Adam. The entire purpose for which women were created is to be a HELP MEET for their own husband (Genesis 2:18). So many women fail to understand this biblical truth. The whole idea of career women is against the Scripture. The Holy Bible says that women who forfeit marriage and motherhood are TURNED ASIDE AFTER SATAN (1st Timothy 5:14-15). God's intended purpose for every young woman is to get married, bear children, guide the home and stay out of trouble! This is not just the old-fashioned way, it is the right way and God's way.
Secular World Admits That The Most Miserable People Are Career Women With No Husband Or Kids!!!
I see at least TWO DOZEN truths taught in Genesis 3:1-6. The preceding is a big one! God created Eve to be Adam's help meet. Literally, Eve was made from one of Adam's ribs, taken from the man, to be his servant and best buddy for life, faithfully standing by her man! If you have a problem with the concept ladies of being a SERVANT to a man, you are not right with God. Not even close! A godly woman desires to be a servant to her own husband. When a woman files for divorce, she is declaring herself liberated, committing an act of rebellion against her own husband and usurping control. This is not a servant's heart! I believe divorce is always a horrible sin. Proverbs 13:10, “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”
Another truth that we glean from Genesis 3:1-6 is that the Devil (the old serpent) is very subtle. The Devil is much craftier and smarter than either you or me friend. As humans we only have a certain amount of time here on earth. The average human lifespan is 70 years of age. Satan also knows that his time on earth is limited, but his reign of terror has spanned millenniums, whereas generations of humans come and go. This gives the Devil an advantage over mankind. It is commonly said that those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat the past. 'Tis very true! The Devil has been around for a very long time, before time even existed in fact. God created time for humanity, so that He could share His plans with us and give us an expected end, something to look forward to in the future. Without time there could be no past, present or future! Think about that.
Another important truth that we see in Genesis 3:1-6 is that Eve was beguiled (deceived) by the Devil. But please notice how clever the serpent was. The serpent didn't come right our and ask Eve to sin. No, that would have been too obvious. Since Adam and Eve had been commanded by God to obey His Word, the serpent began by changing what God had actually said. If you compare what God actually said in Genesis 2:16-17 and then look at what the serpent changed it to in Genesis 3:1, you will notice that the serpent turned God's commandment into a question:
Genesis 2:16-17, “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Genesis 3:1, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Never put a question mark where God has placed a period. God told Adam and Eve that they COULD freely eat of all the trees in the garden, except one (the Tree of Knowledge). But the serpent lied by saying that God told them NOT to eat of all the trees! The serpent was magnifying Eve's restrictions, instead of her privilege's. How true that is! Teenagers so often focus on the seemingly restrictive rules set by parents, pastors and teachers that are intended to protect them. But the truth is that without those seemingly dreadful rules, many teenagers would destroy their lives or end up in a world of hurt and misery!
Rules are our friend, not our enemy. The laws designed by legislatures and enforced by the courts are in most cases for our own protection and well being. Romans 13:3-4, “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.” A minister is a servant. Judges (or magistrates) are the ministers (servants) of God, executing law and order in society. Law abiding citizens have nothing to fear! Proverbs 28:1, “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
Another important lesson to be gleaned from Genesis 3:1-6 is Eve's attitude that got her into trouble. When the serpent tempted her to eat the forbidden fruit, she started to look for excuses to justify what she had already decided to do. Eve made three excuses:
- And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,
- and that it was pleasant to the eyes,
- and a tree to be desired to make one wise,
I found the following article several years ago, which I never forgot...
Why People Do the Things They Do
Genesis 3:6, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
If you ask people why they do the things they do in life, they will give you sensible sounding reasons which seem logical to explain their decisions. We like to believe that we exercise sound judgment, especially in the important decisions of our lives.
However, I think that this is rarely true. I think that standard operating procedure for human decision making is to do what feels right to you at the time, and then to give logical sounding justifications for what you were already going to do anyway, whether you had justifications or not.
So, if you are pregnant, and want to get an abortion, you will be able to give any number of reasonable sounding explanations why this is the right decision. You're not ready to be a parent, or you need to finish your education or get to a better point in your career, or you don't have enough money, et cetera. If instead you want to keep the baby, you will explain how (even though you will have some extra difficulties due to the lack of money or whatever) you will certainly be up to the challenge to make your life work with the baby, how being a parent will be good for you, what a great parent you'll make, how it will bring you and the father closer together, and so on.
In either case, none of these will be the real reason for your decision. The real reason for your decision will always be, “I did it because I wanted to do it.”
Every Man Did That Which Was Right in His Own Eyes
Eve had already decided what she wanted to do, but she needed to justify it in her own mind first. This is typical sinful human nature. Our dear Savior by personal example in Matthew 4:1-10 teaches us how to handle temptation. The Devil came to Jesus to tempt Him three separate times. Each time the blessed Savior quoted the inspired Word of God to overcome temptation. The proper way for Eve to have handled her situation would have been to continue quoting the Scripture to the serpent. GOD SAID IT, THAT SETTLES IT!!! God had commanded Adam and Eve not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge. This reiterates the importance of memorizing the Scriptures. Psalms 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
The Devil is a bold liar (John 8:44). The Devil is a thief who only comes to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10). The world is full of deceit and liars (1st John 5:19). THE TRUTH has few friends these days! Sadly, I keep meeting deadbeat pastors like Sean Quinlan and Jeff Redlin who are lackadaisical about damnable heresy in the Bob Jones University camp today. Jeff Redlin is the senior pastor of Campus Church at Pensacola Christian College (PCC) in Florida. Sadly, Jeff Redlin falsely accused me of finding weaknesses in preachers when he saw my ministry website. THE TRUTH is that Pastor Redlin is a coward, who refuses to take a biblical stand against the false teachers of our generation. I am faithfully doing what Redlin and Sean Quinlan don't have the integrity to do, STAND!
Famous author Mark Twain once said: “What one generation tolerates the next generation will embrace.” Pensacola Christian College (PCC) is A.W.O.L. from 'The Battle Of The Ages' over the inspiration and purity of God's Word. PCC refuses to speak a negative word against the corrupt Bob Jones University (BJU) camp, to their utter contempt and shame. It is wickedness!!! BJU is a cesspool of damnable heresy and worldliness today. It is shameful how BJU's female students wear sexy shorts on the gym floor, and how their female graduates wear pants to church. I saw this at the shameful Harvest Baptist Church on Guam, a hellish hole of the Lordship Salvation heresy, wrong repentance heresy, counterfeit Bible versions and stinking sinful arrogance. Hell is coming up to meet Pastors' Marty Herron and Gary Walton at Harvest, for corrupting the Gospel of free grace with their Calvinist lies!!!
Anything can be justified! Anything!!! You can twist the Bible in all different ways to justify anything. Feminists foolishly wrest the Bible to justify their rebellion of women pastors. Feminists foolishly wrest the Bible to do away with wifely obedience to her own husband. These wicked people hide behind a façade of Christianity, but it is of the Devil.
Dr. Peter S. Ruckman (1921-2016) foolishly wrest the Scripture to justify abortion, saying that a fetus is not a human being until an infant breathes his or her first breath, based upon Genesis 2:7. Pastor Ruckman is 100% WRONG! At conception a human being exists and ought to be protected in the womb by law. To say that a growing child in the womb is not a human being yet, in an attempt to justify abortion, is WICKEDNESS!!!
There may be different opinions of what a particular Bible passage means, but there is only one correct true meaning. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but no one has a right to their own facts! We are living in a time of woeful deception, false teachers, damnable heresy and contemptible pastors (like Marty Herron, Church Phelps and Gary Walton). And then there are contemptible pastors in the Pensacola Christian College camp who sinfully bid Godspeed to those Calvinist infidels, making them partakers of their evil deeds (2nd John 1:11). It is wickedness of the worst sort!!!
Eve was deceived because she had a wrong attitude. Instead of humbling herself to submit to God's Word, she (in her sinful pride) leaned upon her own understanding, which led to her downfall, and then Adam's. Eve brought misery and havoc upon herself, her husband, her family and the human race!!! Thank God for the dear Savior Who died on the cross to pay for our sins and redeem us back to God by faith. Christ was buried and three days later bodily resurrected from the dead. God promises to save whosoever BELIEVES on the name of Jesus (1st Corinthians 1:21; John 3:16; John 6:28-29; John 6:40, 47).
