Refuting Pastor Loran Livingstone On Speaking In Tongues

Pastor Loran Livingstone (born 1952) is a false prophet who leads Central Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has done so for more than four decades. Dr. Livingstone moved to Charlotte in 1977 to pastor the newly formed Central Church.

Unfortunately, Pastor Livingstone is a Church of God Pentecostal preacher who teaches the unbiblical modern-day pagan practice of speaking in tongues. Dear reader, heathen false prophets like Loran Livingstone and Paula White speaking such gibberish garbage, which is sinful nonsense...

Speaking in Tongues as practiced today in Charismatic and Pentecostal churches has its origin in African witchcraft. The truth may shock you!

In the Bible tongues (languages) were used for the purpose of preaching the Gospel. This is made clear in Acts chapter 2 concerning the Day of Pentecost, because 3,000 men were born again by gladly receiving (believing) the Gospel which the Apostle Peter preached unto them (Acts 2:41).

In sharp contrast, Pastor Loran Livingstone perverts the Scripture, claiming that the Christians in the upper room spoke among other believers in tongues. ...

Acts 2:5-8, “And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?”

Nothing in this Scripture passage confirms that unsaved people were not present while the miracle of tongues occurred. The Bible plainly tells us that the result of speaking (and hearing) in tongues was the conversation of 3,000 men at Pentecost. Whatever started in the upper room was intended for the thousands of unsaved people who came on the Day of Pentecost.

The modern-day entertainment of speaking in tongues (unknown jibber-jabber) is totally foreign to the Word of God. 1st Corinthians 14:23, “If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?”

Legitimate Biblical tongues ALWAYS deals with known, earthly, established languages; but never some unknown, strange, mumbo-jumbo unknown earthly language. If it's not an earthly established language, it's of the Devil. God is still a miracle-working God, but His power is not available at our whim for the purpose of entertainment and dazzling the crowd, preying upon people's pocket books like Paula White wickedly does.

Please RUN from any preacher who speaks in gibberish unearthly tongues!!!

And for that matter, RUN from all female preachers, who are defiant against God's holy commandment for women to keep silence in the churches, and to leave men to lead the church (1st Timothy 2:11-12).

That being said, I think Pastor Loran Livingstone is a good man, and I have enjoyed listening to much of his Bible preaching. But speaking in tongues is an unbiblical practice. The only legitimate “tongues” always involves known, earthly, established languages. A translator is often required. But this is a very different scenario than uttering some unknown gibberish that no human being has ever heard, which somebody can allegedly understand (which they don't). This is spiritual fraud! What Miss Paula White is doing is spiritual fraud! It sickens me that President Donald Trump appointed Paula White as his White House spiritual advisor.

I also applaud Pastor Livingstone for exposing the corrupt Health, Wealth and Prosperity false gospel movement. He comes closer to being right than wrong. I felt it necessary to refute Dr. Livingstone's false teaching that there are legitimate forms of Pentecostal speaking in tongues. There are not! If you don't know what they are saying, and they don't know what they're saying, that is of the Devil. Any spirit that is not the Holy Spirit is a familiar spirit (demon).

And also, I need to mention that Dr. Loran Livingstone is a strong supporter of Pastor John MacArthur (1939-2025), who was the Godfather of the damnable heresy of Lordship Salvation. Tragically, Livingstone also preaches a perverted view of the Gospel, mixing works with grace. Your behavior has absolutely nothing to do with receiving God's free gift of eternal life by faith.
