Matthew 10:37-38, “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.”
The heathen secular world says, “Family is everything!” But is that what the inspired Holy Bible says? No, not at all. Jesus said in our text passage of Scripture, “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.” The things of God must come first.
Umpteen Hollywood movies often show scenes where men who miss their child's birthday party because they're busy working are demonized as being bad fathers. The world worships the family life, but we are supposed to worship Jesus Christ. Luke 14:26, “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.” Family is not everything!
Too many people in the heathen world worship their spouse. That is unscriptural. You should love your wife or husband, but you should love God more. Your love for Jesus Christ should be a greater priority than your love for anything or anyone else in this world. Family time ought not be a greater priority than serving God. I don't want my wife to love me more than anyone else. I want her to love God more, because if she loves God then she will submit to me and not sass me. She won't pursue her own selfish plans and ideas without me. She will obey her husband.
The Christian Life is a Matter of Priorities
Your priorities in family life should be:
- Christ
- your spouse
- children
If you get those priorities wrong, you'll find misery. The children will someday grow up and leave home, and then what kind of marriage will you have left? A wife who puts her children before her husband is a fool. The man of the house should always eat first, then the kids.
Many Dad's are demonized by Hollywood movies for missing their child's birthday, because the man's boss demanded that he either come to work or be fired. Hollywood and the ungodly media continually attack and demean fathers, husbands and boys. There is a Satanic agenda at work in the United States to undermine male authority and masculinity in society. That same Satanic agenda wants to destroy femininity and female submission to ruin the family. The evils of feminism can be seen in the skyrocketing divorce rate today.
The day that a woman becomes our U.S. President will be the nails in our coffin as a country. And you can be assured dear reader that when the demon-possessed Democrats retake the White House in a few years that they'll bring back all of the demonic Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (D.E.I.) filth, transgender confusion and wickedness with a vengeance to undo all that President Trump has accomplished for good. I've never seen such insane hatred of a political figure as toward President Donald Trump because of what he stands for, decency and righteousness, even though he is an unsaved man with many faults.
Family is not everything! To the heathen person family is everything. The inspired King James Bible teaches that obeying God is everything. Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” God only knows how many sinners will miss Heaven someday because they were unwilling to break away from their family's religious tradition (Mark 7:9).
I fully agree with the phenomenal quote made by The Godfather (played by actor Marlon Brando in the 1972 Hollywood movie of the same title): “A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man.” Yes, I agree. What saith the Scripture? 1st Timothy 5:8, “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” A man is expected by God to take care of his own family, and to spend quality time with them. So, obviously we have to set priorities and seek to have a balance in our life. God must always come first!
Your Family May Reject Your Faith in Jesus
By obeying God, it is quite possible that your own family may turn against you and despise your faith. Matthew 10:34-36, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.”
The disloyal wife of famous evangelist Charles Weigle (1871-1966) abandoned him. Charles Weigle's wife left him because like my wife, she wanted to go her own way to do her own thing, refusing to obey her husband. This personal betrayal deeply influenced his songwriting, particularly in his hymn titled: “No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus.”
I once led a Hispanic man to the Lord at work about 30 years ago. His name was Moreno. Shortly thereafter he told me that his staunch Roman Catholic family had rejected him. Moreno said his own mother mocked him for becoming a born again Christian. He said that she made fun of born again Christians with their storefront hole-in-the-wall churches, in comparison to the great Catholic cathedrals with their exquisite marble, architectural elegance and massive wealth. I felt sorry for my Christian friend at work, that his own Catholic family had cruelly turned against his new found faith in Christ. This is what Jesus meant when He warned in Matthew 10:36, “And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.”
So, when your family turns against you dear Christian, are you going to quit on God? When your wife abandons you, as mine did me twice, will you abandon God? The biggest mistake you'll ever make is to center your life around your spouse and your children, because they will be gone someday without warning, and then you'll be alone. God must be not only first in our life, but the central theme of everything (Hebrews 12:2).
Dr. Weigle was a Baptist evangelist and noted hymn writer of more than 1,000 hymns. He entered heaven's gates December 3, 1966 at age 95, from Chattanooga, Tennessee. After he was called to be an evangelist, his wife came to him one day and said: “I’m leaving, Charlie. I don’t want to live the life you are living. I want to go the other way—to the bright lights.” Their only child, a daughter, left with her. That very night Charles saw them off on a train to the other side of the country. Five years passed before he wrote another song, but God healed him. His wife died as a consequence of a life of sin. SOURCE
God is faithful (1st Corinthians 1:9). I actually learned this truth about 'The Cult Of Family' from my ministry friend Pastor Steven Anderson in his latest sermon titled: 'Nehemiah 4: Building And Battling.' I fully agree with Brother Anderson that the heathen world idolizes the family, but Jesus Christ has no place in their lives. This is why the world is in such a mess today.
