Pastor J. Vernon McGee's Contradictory Theology

Acts 19:32, “Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.”

Sometimes I just have to walk away scratching my head in bewilderment, wondering what was going on in a pastor's brain while he was majorly contradicting himself in his preaching. Case in point is Pastor J. Vernon McGee (1904-1988). In this video sermon excerpt from YouTube, you will hear Dr. McGee preaching damnable heresy. ...

Dr. J. Vernon McGee Q&A - Is Repentance Part of Salvation?

The following is a heretical quote from Pastor McGee's preceding video excerpt:
“𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. Yet, in the following video Dr. McGee strongly refutes the heresy of Lordship Salvation.

Pastor J. Vernon McGee Refutes Lordship Salvation Heresy

Will the real J. Vernon McGee please stand up! The old boy must have started losing his mind in his old age. If you listen carefully to the heretical excerpt below, you will hear Dr. McGee say that a fellow pastor accused him of leaving off repentance, which prompted him to counter his own previous teaching with this damnable heresy. I learned a long time ago that I will NEVER be able to please everybody with my biblical beliefs and preaching. I don't care what you preach, someone will criticize you! The important thing is to make sure that what you are preaching can be 100% backed-up with the inspired KING JAMES BIBLE!!! Dr. McGee really messed up! He messed up because he cared what other preachers thought about his doctrine. Sadly, in an attempt to clarify his preaching to appease his critics, he perverted the Gospel.

Having said that, every pastor I know has been wrong at times. Pastor Max Younce (1935-2023) denied the inspiration of the King James Bible. He was wrong! I love Pastor Younce and he will always be one of my heroes, but as a man he was flawed, sinful and mortal (which he would have been the first to admit).

Pastor Harry Ironside (1876-1951) was 100% free grace, Dr. Ironside is one of my favorite free grace preachers; but he really messed up in his 'The Eternal Security Of The Believer' book, in which he teaches that "endure" in Matthew 24:13 means you must persevere in your profession of faith until the end to be saved.

That is NOT what Matthew 24:13 means. It has nothing to do with salvation; but rather, with physically surviving the 7-year Tribulation period. We see this from Matthew 24:22, “𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱...” Dr. Ironside got this passage of Scripture wrong, but he was merely a sinful, flawed and mortal man.

So, having humbly said these things, Pastor J. Vernon McGee was only a man, vulnerable to ecclesiastical peer pressure, which I believe he succumbed to in a moment of weakness, when he made these foolish statements. Unfortunately, he is dead and cannot clear up the matter, leaving his followers to wallow in confusion. That is why dear reader that why are commanded by the Lord Himself in John 5:39 to SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES! I love all these faithful men of God, but I do not follow any of them when they contradict the inspired Holy Scriptures (and sometimes they do).

I read where Pastor Younce corrected the translators of the King James Bible. Dr. Younce said that they messed up on Romans 10:11, “𝗪𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱.” My friend said that the translators should have translated it as: "“𝗪𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗺 SHOULD NOT 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱.” That would only be true if the Bible was talking about us being ashamed of Jesus, but that is NOT what God is saying here. The Holy Bible is saying that if you put your trust in the only begotten Son of God, JESUS WILL NOT DISSAPOINT YOU. That is, you will not be ashamed because Jesus failed you. That is the proper context. So, respectfully, Dr. Younce was very wrong to CORRECT God's inspired Words. The Bible doesn't need correcting, WE DO!!!

I love Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001), but he really messed up when he preached a sermon in which he teaches that if you are not saved, you are not human. I'm not kidding. He also says in that particular sermon that if you are saved, but walking in the flesh, you are not human. That is simply strange doctrine. Dr. Hyles even stops half way through the sermon, looks at everybody in the congregation, and says: "I feel like I'm not coming across to you." Uh, yeah!
I didn't create this post to criticize my heroes, but simply to caution everyone about the dangers of following men. I do not give 100% doctrinal loyalty to any human being. I am always testing (trying) everything I hear against the Acid Test of the inspired Word of God (1st John 4:1; as did the Bereans in Acts 17:10-11). You cannot deceive a believer who is settled and grounded in the inspired King James Bible!!!

It is unfortunate that Pastor J. Vernon McGee said that a drunkard who claims to be saved, but then continues drinking his booze, didn't really get saved. That is FALSE INFORMATION! These lies came off the lips of the same preacher who told us that Lordship Salvation is a false Gospel. Well which is it, because it cannot be both ways?

Either you cannot be saved if you continue living in sin, which is what Lordship Salvation teaches; or else you can be saved by faith alone in Christ alone, and it doesn't matter how you behave, as far as getting saved is concerned. But it absolutely cannot be both ways! The latter is what the Bible teaches. Your behavior has nothing to do with your decision to receive the free gift of God. Eternal Life is A FREE GIFT (Romans 5:15-18).
