Romans 5:6-9, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
There's a lot of unfair things in a marriage, such as forgiving one's spouse when they betray your trust, lie about you and bring shame upon the marriage, but Jesus didn't deserve to suffer and die for crimes that He didn't commit. We all deserve to burn in Hell for our crimes against God. Romans 3:10-11, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”
Christ unfairly suffered in our place on Calvary's cross. I try to remember that truth whenever my wife disappoints and hurts me. Sometimes my wife tells me that she doesn't deserve the nice things that I do for her, after she disappoints me. I always kindly remind her that Jesus didn't deserve to be punished either for what we did wrong, but He still loves us and died in our place anyway (Romans 5:6-9). Jesus has set an example for us to follow.
I don't do nice things for my wife because she deserves it, but because she needs it and I love her. That is what it means to be Christlike. I love my wife, so I am nice to her even when she doesn't deserve it. This Bible truth will revolutionize all of your relationships when you are treated unfairly, if you will apply it to your life. 2nd Corinthians 5:21, “For he [God the Father] hath made him [God the Son] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him [Christ] .” Jesus paid a debt that He did not owe, because we owed a debt that we could not pay. That is true love.
“The only sins Christ ever had was OURS. And the only righteousness we will ever have is HIS. He gives you His righteousness when you believe on Him as your savior.” —Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold
