Galatians 1:6-9, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
It saddens my heart that I keep learning about corrupt pastors, who preach a counterfeit plan of salvation, corrupting the masses with their toxic misunderstanding of the inspired Scriptures. Tragically, Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899) needs to be exposed in this blog. You will be shocked when you read what he taught to the masses. But before I begin, I admire Pastor Moody's passion for people. Moody was famous for using horse-drawn coaches and wagons to bring poor children throughout Chicago to church in the late 19th century. I love this quote...
“God had no children too weak, but a great many too strong to make use of.” —Pastor Dwight L. Moody (1836-1899)
I am 100% certain that Mr. Moody was totally sincere in his peaching, just naïve and ignorant, unlearned in the Scriptures as are so many men in the clergy. Say what you will, if you take an inspired KING JAMES BIBLE and compare what you are about to read from Mr. Moody, you will soon realize that what he taught doesn't match up or agree with the Holy Bible. Let's begin. Pastor Moody states:
There is a good deal of trouble among people about what repentance really is. If you ask people what it is, they will tell you "It is feeling sorry." If you ask a man if he repents, he will tell you, "Oh, yes; I generally feel sorry for my sins." That is not repentance. It is something more than feeling sorry. Repentance is turning right about and forsaking sin. I wanted to speak on Sunday about that verse in Isaiah, which says, "Let the guilty forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts." That is what it is. If a man don't turn from his sin he won't be accepted of God, and if righteousness don't produce a turning about - a turning from bad to good - it isn't true righteousness. ...
I heard of a man who said he had been converted, A friend asked him if he had repented. "No," said he, "I never trouble my head about it." My friends, when a man becomes converted the work has to be a little deeper than that. He has to become repentant, and try to atone for what he has done. If he is at war with anyone he has to go and be reconciled to his enemy. If he doesn't his conversion is the work of Satan. When a man turns to God he is made a new creature - a new man. His impulses all the time are guided by love. He loves his enemies and tries to repair all wrong he has done. This is a true sign of conversion. If this sign is not apparent his conversion has never got from his head to his heart. We must be born of the spirit, hearts must be regenerated - born again. When a man repents, and turns to the God of Heaven, then the work is deep and thorough. I hope that everyone here tonight will see the necessity of true repentance when they come to God for a blessing, and may the Spirit move You to ask it tonight. [emphasis added]

Mr. Moody is partly correct. He is correct that feeling sorry for sin is not repentance. But he goes horribly astray when he mandates a changed life as evidence one is truly saved. My ministry friend, Pastor Ralph Yankee Arnold, gets repentance 100% correct. I love all of the following free grace Gospel quotes, which I have gleaned over the years while listening to Dr. Yankee Arnold's Scriptural wisdom. I THANK GOD for doctrinally sound preachers, which are so rare to find in every generation. . . .
“If you have to look at your life to prove that you are saved, it proves that you're not!” —Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold, “Why Lordship Salvation Is Wrong”
“Trusting Christ by faith alone cannot cannot be revealed by works at all; salvation can only be revealed by works, if works are required to be saved!” —Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold, “Why Lordship Salvation Is Wrong”
“'You can't tell me you can trust Christ as Savior, and then go out here and live like the Devil, and still go to Heaven!' Yes, I can tell you that! That's what the Bible says. If you don't come to the conclusion, that—Yes, you can trust Christ as your Savior and live like the Devil, and still go to Heaven when you die—you don't get grace, because that is the exact truth! That is the truth! I do not have to change my life! I don't have to stop one sin! You say, 'I've never heard a preacher say that.' You just heard one! And you listen to me—I want to live as holy and as godly as I possibly can. I am now 70 years old. I've been saved for 52 years. ... the only reason I'm going to Heaven is because, 52 years ago in a little living room, I accepted Christ as my Savior.” —Pastor Ralph Yankee Arnold, “Calvinism And Grace Are NOT Compatible”
“The Gospel, if you understand it, can cause you to love one another.” –Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold, “To Believe, Receive, Accept, or Trust???”
“Being saved is not something that you perform, it is something that He performs.” —Pastor Ralph Yankee Arnold, “Raised For Our Justification”
“If all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, then why would you use those rags to prove that you're saved?” —Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold, “How Do I Know God Really Loves Me? - Part 2”
“It's not the size of my faith that gets me to Heaven, it's the object of my faith!” —Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold, “Where Is Faith?”
“My destination is not based upon how I live my life, it's on whom that I trust to save me.” —Pastor Ralph “Yankee” Arnold
“There is power in this Gospel message. Most people just don't know how to present it... The clarity of the Gospel is what makes it easy for them to believe.” —Pastor Yankee Arnold, “Why Grace Can Save The Worst Man”
Sadly, Dwight L. Moody went from being a shoe salesman to a pastor of tens of thousands of people, but Moody had zero theological training, evidenced by his perverse teachings on repentance. Like all false teachers do, Moody honed in one one obscure passage in Isaiah from the Old Testament, while completely ignoring the rest of the Bible. Dear reader, not one verse in the entire inspired KING JAMES BIBLE (which is the only reliable Bible in the English language) says to repent “of your sins” or to “turn from your sins” to get to Heaven.
Granted, I think what Mr. Moody was trying to teach is that when you get saved, there should be some evidence of it. The inherent big problem with such thinking is that unsaved people can imitate those same behavior changes. Can an unsaved person clean up their act? Yes. Can a hellbound sinner do “many good works” (Matthew 7:22-23)? Yes, yes, yes! So how can a positively changed life be used as evidence of the new birth? That's right, it cannot.
Not one verse in the Bible tells us to become fruit inspectors, to determine who is or isn't saved. But the Epistle of 1st John was written for the specific purpose of self-examination, to help professed Christians determine if they are really saved (1st John 5:13). The acid test is very simple—do you have the indwelling Holy Spirit? That is the evidence of being saved, and the ONLY evidence, so saith the Scripture. 1st John 3:24, “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.” If you have God's Holy Spirit living inside you, then you know it friend. The world cannot see Him, but if you are saved you know Him; and more importantly, Jesus knows you as one of His sheep. John 10:14, “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.”
I am so disgusted by the doctrinal poison that Mr. Moody is teaching, which millions of people still foolishly hinge upon today as if God wrote it Himself (Latin: Sola Scriptura, or Scripture alone). Dear friend, Dwight Moody was just a shoe salesman turned minister. He was only a flawed human being, who ought not be considered a theological source by any means. Even worse is Pastor Charles Spurgeon (1834-1982), who is idolized by every Lordship-Salvation-preaching-heretic in modern times.
Ironically, Moody's successor down the road, Pastor Harry A. Ironside (1876-1951), who was saved eventually as a result of Moody's preaching, was 100% correct on repentance. ...
“The Gospel is not a call to repentance, or to amendment of our ways, to make restitution for past sins, or to promise to do better in the future. These things are proper in their place, but they do not constitute the Gospel; for the Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed, it is good news to be believed. Do not make the mistake then of thinking that the Gospel is a call to duty or a call to reformation, a call to better your condition, to behave yourself in a more perfect way than you have been doing in the past …Amen! Boy, that is so refreshing to read. It is beautifully spoken! Bravo Dr. Ironside!!! Repentance is not a separate event from faith, although they are not the same thing. Here is the best quote that I've found on repentance, by Dr. Harry A. Ironside:
Nor is the Gospel a demand that you give up the world, that you give up your sins, that you break off bad habits, and try to cultivate good ones. You may do all these things, and yet never believe the Gospel and consequently never be saved at all.”
SOURCE: Harry A. Ironside, from the sermon: What Is The Gospel?
“Which comes first, repentance or faith? In Scripture we read, 'Repent ye, and believe the gospel.' Yet we find true believers exhorted to 'repent, and do the first works.' So intimately are the two related that you cannot have one without the other. The man who believes God repents; the repentant soul puts his trust in the Lord when the Gospel is revealed to him. Theologians may wrangle over this, but the fact is, no man repents until the Holy Spirit produces repentance in his soul through the truth. No man believes the Gospel and rests in it for his own salvation until he has judged himself as a needy sinner before God. And this is repentance.” (Except Ye Repent, p. 16)
Repentance is simply a matter of acknowledging THE TRUTH of your sinnership. 2nd Timothy 2:25, “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” Repentance is entirely a matter of the heart, where a person acknowledges THE TRUTH that you are a guilty sinner in the sight of a holy God; thus believing the Gospel you are saved by faith alone. This is quite different than requiring a man to forsake his sinful bad habits to be saved (which is the tomfoolery Mr. Moody is sadly preaching).
Dr. Mark G. Cambron, B.A., M.A., Th.B., Th.M., Th.D., D.D., L.L.D., Litt.D., was one of the foremost theologians of our times. Most theologians are ignoramuses, but not this man. Dr. Cambron was a genuine Bible scholar, a man we can trust when he teaches the inspired Word of God. Here is an excellent and needful writing by Dr. Mark G. Cambron (1911-2000) on the subject of REPENTANCE. Please read the following quote carefully, because Dr. Cambron is one of few theologian who gets it correct, that is, he understands the simplicity of the Gospel and that repentance does not mean turning from sin...
Repentance is necessary for salvation.
The Greek word for repent is metanoeo, which, translated into English is: to change ones mind. It does not mean to turn from sin. That would add works to salvation.
Repentance for salvation means a change of mind from men's ideas of salvation and religion, to an acceptance of Gods only way of salvation.
This results in a completely new creation, not a reformation of the old. The old nature remains as evil as ever after salvation and has not been reformed . . . The old nature can now be controlled by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
God guarantees salvation. This is His gift to us.
God guarantees reward and fruit to the obedient son.
God guarantees chastening and loss of rewards to the disobedient son.
God does not cast out disobedient children, but in some cases, does take them home. He does not permit His children to live as they please without His discipline and guidance.
Many teach repentance for salvation incorrectly, by including some form of human effort or righteousness, such as willingness to turn from sin, or turning from sin. This is heresy and has confused many people. It adds works to salvation and causes many to not understand Gods great gift. It is probation, not salvation. It is completely unscriptural. It is Galatianism and a counterfeit of the gospel.
It is a tragedy that many Christians live shallow Christian lives. The Cambron Institute is dedicated to the task of training Christian men and women in the importance of total dedication and making Jesus the Lord of their lives not to be saved but because they are saved.
Shallow Christianity cannot be cured by adding works to salvation.
Salvation is not the result of what we do, but is by receiving what God has done for us. Acts 13:38, 39; Acts 20:20: Gal. 1:8,9; Gal. 2:4; Gal. 2:21; Gal. 3:1.3; Gal. 5:1-4; Eph. 2:8-10; II Cor. 5:21;John 3:16-18; Phil. 3:9; Titus 3:5-8:11 Cor. 11:13-1 5.

Yes, that's it! Bravo Dr. Cambron!!! Please understand that I don't find any joy in exposing Dwight Moody as a heretic on repentance, but the truth is what it is. Did Mr. Moody go to Heaven? I cannot answer that question. Only God knows who is saved or lost. But I can tell you assuredly on the authority of God's Word, that the garbage Mr. Moody taught about repentance does NOT agree with what the Bible teaches. Men at best are flawed.
We see this in Acts 15:1-5. The men in verse one were not saved, because they plainly added works to grace. However, the Bible says that the doctrinally flawed Pharisees in verse five were saved. In my humbly opinion, the heresy they were teaching was that saved Gentiles were required to keep the Mosaic law to please God. The Apostle Luke in Acts 15:24 refutes them, clarifying that this is NOT what the disciples taught the people. So, in fact, someone can be messed up doctrinally in some areas and still be born-again.
The dividing line between saved or lost is when someone trusts anything more than Christ alone to be saved (Hebrews 4:10-11). In my humble opinion, Dwight Moody trusted in Christ alone, he just errantly taught that works are proof of the new birth. We know from the Bible that this is simply not true, because the unsaved false prophets in Matthew 7:22-23 did “many wonderful works” in Jesus' name, and they “prophesied”(preached) in Jesus' name, even calling Him “Lord, Lord.” Yet, Jesus denied knowing them as His sheep. Tragically, they went to burn in the fires and torments of Hell forever!!!
Religion will take you to Hell dear friend! You need to be born-again (John 3:3), which happens only by your faith in Jesus' death on the cross for your sins, burial and bodily resurrection three days later. This is the Gospel (1st Corinthians 15:1-4). BELIEVE IT and you will be saved immediately, irrevocably and permanently (Romans 1:16). Remember, you are not saved by your own self-righteousness; but by the imputed righteousness of God, which is through faith in Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:9, “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:” Faith is the only righteous thing that I can do.
