I learned a new word today... "tommyrot," which means "nonsense; utter foolishness." I'll be using that word more in my preaching when describing the corrupt Pensacola Christian College and Bob Jones University camps. I am increasingly thinking objectively when I read preacher quotes, simply because a lot of things I am reading are unbiblical tommyrot! For example: I read this heresy today on Twitter by Pastor R.A. Torrey (1856-1928):
"Many attempt to be disciples of Jesus and not let the world know it. To be a secret disciple means to be no disciple at all. If one really has received Christ he cannot keep it to himself."
What saith the Scripture? John 19:38a, "And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews..."Clearly, the Holy Bible DOES teach that a person can be born-again and yet keep it A SECRET. Beware of everything you read and hear dear friend, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1st John 4:1, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." Never reject those who love, care and try to reach out to you, because one day you'll realize you lost the moon while counting the stars!
Don't look for someone who will solve all your problems, look for someone who won't let you face them alone.
To fall in love is by chance;Sometimes we create our own heartbreaks through expectations.
To love is a choice;
To fall out of love is a choice too;
You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequences of your choice.
Never chase love, affection or attention. If it isn't given freely by another person, it isn't worth having.
Never apologize for having high standards. People who really want to be in your life will rise up to them. Stand up for what is right even if you're standing alone!
Never blame anyone in your life:
- Good people give you happiness.
- Bad people give you experience.
- The worst people give you a lesson.
- And the best people give you memories. Everybody you have ever met in your life was brought to you for a reason.
"When someone does something wrong, make it a point to never forget all the things they did right." —Pastor Bob Gray Sr.
(MP3, Dr. Jack Hyles; A pastor is a position, not a calling. You can forfeit a position, but never your calling to preach!)
Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith.
God will not save anyone who is trying to be saved, He will only save those who are trusting to be saved.
“God is looking for people who want to know the truth.” —Pastor Ralph Yankee Arnold“Now people should look for joy in the Word, and not in the world; they should look for the joy which the Scriptures furnish.” —Pastor Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899)“The only way to learn strong faith is to endure great trials. I have learned my faith by standing firm in severe testing.” —Evangelist George Muller (1805-1898)“Certainly discipleship is a most important aspect of our relation to Christ, but it belongs to the sphere of Christian life rather than entrance upon that life... One does not become a disciple in order to become a Christian, but because he has become a Christian by faith in the Savior, it is fitting that he embark upon a life of discipleship.” —Everett F. Harrison, “Must Christ be Lord to Be Savior?-No”; Eternity, September 1959 (p. 14)“Now, a great many say, 'I am too great a sinner to be saved.' That is like a hungry man saying he is too hungry to eat, or a sick man saying he is too sick to send for a doctor, or a beggar saying, 'I am too poor to beg; I'll wait till I get some money first.'” —Pastor Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899)
“It is important to know the mind of man. It is absolutely essential to know the mind of God. The place to discover the mind of God is the Bible. This is the Book in which God reveals His mind.” —Pastor R.A. Torrey (1856-1928)
“Now you say, 'Brother Hyles, you make an issue.' You dead sure better know I'll make an issue!” —BATTLE OF THE AGES (MP3, Dr. Jack Hyles, “The King James Bible crowd is going to come out on top!”)
Those persons that know the deep peace of God, the unfathomable peace that passeth all understanding, are always men and women of much prayer.
“He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas.” —Benjamin Franklin
The devil would rather ruin a Christian’s testimony than burn down a church building.
- The flesh makes us world conscious
- The soul makes us self conscious.
- The spirit makes us God conscious.
“Faith and repentance are the same; they are not two separate decisions. One cannot trust Christ as Savior without repenting or changing his mind. The very fact that he trusts Christ for salvation shows that he has changed his mind regarding sin, salvation, and God.” —Pastor Curtis Hutson (1934-1995)“No sooner do we begin to preach the gospel of the Son of God than men begin to manufacture excuses. They begin to hunt around to see if they cannot find some reason to give for not accepting the invitation. Excuses are the cradle that Satan rocks men off to sleep in.” —Pastor Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899)“The world may call us fanatics and fools, but they cannot give us any worse name than they gave the Master. They called Him Beelzebub, the prince of devils, and we can afford to be called fools for Christ's sake for a little while, and by and by we will be called home.” —Pastor Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899)“Loyalty to country ALWAYS. Loyalty to government, when it deserves it.” —Mark Twain (1835-1910)
“A man doesn't get better to get saved; he gets saved to get better.” —Pastor Curtis Hutson (1934-1995), a quote from the excellent sermon, “Salvation Crystal Clear.”
“God has a special rebuke, again and again and again in the Bible, toward those people who keep their neutrality in the work of God!” —SOURCE: Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001), a quote from the needful and precious MP3 sermon titled: “Where Were You In The Battle?”Religion is man trying to reach God through human effort, but Christianity is God trying to reach man by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son on the cross.
“You don't have to fall apart just because the world falls apart!” —an excellent quote by Pastor Ralph “Yankee” Arnold from his awesome MP3 sermon called, “THE CALL TO SUFFER.”
"When the honest, sincere Christian is faced with the decision regarding whether a thing is right or wrong, he should ask, does it agree with all that the Scripture has to say on the subject?" —Pastor Curtis Hutson“When men are trying to patch up this old Adam-nature, trying to make themselves better, they are growing worse all the time. When men are trying to save themselves and work out their own salvation without God, they are all the time making themselves worse.” —Pastor Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899)“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.” —PlatoWhen a believer places happiness over holiness it won't be long before they're neither!“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” ~Albert Einstein“There are three kinds of giving: grudge giving, duty giving, and thanksgiving. Grudge giving says, ‘I have to’; duty giving says, ‘I ought to’; thanksgiving says, ‘I want to.’” —Robert Rodenmeyer
However, many today misunderstand this marvelous truth and say in effect, “Yes, Christ can save you, but your faith must keep holding on to Christ in order for you to reach heaven.” According to this approach, Christ really doesn't save a person; they save themselves. With this approach, a person is not really saved by faith in Christ, but ultimately by faith in their faith, as they think it is their “faithfulness” to Christ which will ultimately bring them eternal life. The great Bible teacher of the past, Harry Ironside, addressed this very problem as he answered the objection: “But must I not hold on to the end if I would be saved at last?”
“Repentance don't save you! Calling on the Lord don't save you! You know what saves you? Receiving what Christ done for you on the cross!” —Pastor Danny Castle, a quote from the needful MP3 sermon, “WHY THERE'S A HELL.”
There's two days you should never worry about—yesterday and tomorrow! You can't change them. Fight today's battles today! Worry is the end of faith and faith is the end of worry! The second I start trusting the Lord, I quit worrying; and the second I start worrying, I quit trusting the Lord. Worry is not trusting God. I just feel like, some of you may be just worrying yourself sick, over stuff that you can't change it a bit. You know what you need to do—put it into God's hands! Don't be guilty of the sin that most Christians commit. (awesome quotes from Pastor Danny Castle's helpful sermon titled, “The Sin That Most Christians Commit.”
“You say, 'Preacher are you worried about the depression?' No, I'm worried about the prosperity!” —Dr. Jack Hyles; a quote from the classic MP3 sermon, “You Must Go Through Arabia.”“It's time that God's people met with God!” —Dr. Jack Hyles; a quote from, “You Must Go Through Arabia.”
“We've got churches, lots of them. We've got preachers, seminaries, and they are turning out preachers and putting them into little theological molds and keeping them there until they get cold enough to practice preaching.” —Billy Sunday, “Criticism and Criticism” (chapter 18), from his biography by William T. Ellis titled, “Billy Sunday: The Man And His Message.”
