2nd Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
“Doubt is the precursor to fear, and I knew that I couldn't experience my perfect moment if I was afraid.” —Alex Honnold
One of the most amazing people alive today is a young man named Alex Honnold. Alex free solo climbed the 3,000 foot high Yosemite mountain wall in California on July 3rd, 2017. ...

Literally, Alex uses no ropes or safety equipment while climbing frighteningly high natural mountains and manmade buildings. It blows my mind that anyone could have such calm nerves being thousands of feet off the ground, with no safety equipment. I would be utterly terrified even with the safety equipment, doubting if the equipment could keep me from falling. What if? For that reason I won't even ride on amusement park rides.
Pastor Jack Hyles said that there are three ways to become great:
- Know something that no one else knows.
- Be something that no one else is.
- Do something that no on else has done.
Alex made an amazing statement that caught my attention. When asked about how he overcomes his fear of climbing, he said: “Doubt is the precursor to fear.” That is very Biblical, even though Alex wasn't referring to the Bible. I got to thinking about how doubt in our daily Christian life so often gives way to unnecessary fear. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.
