The Bible Teaches An Old Earth (Or, 'Gap Principle')

Psalms 102:25, “Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.”

I 100% believe in the Gap Principle. I learned from Pastor Max Younce not to call it a "theory," because it is a "principle" that can be proven with the Bible, and is not a mere theory. I have lots of resources to help you study this subject, which I think you will find fascinating. Here is a very helpful book by theologian Arthur C. Custance (1910-1985), called: "Without Form And Void." Dr. Custance wrote an entire book just to explain Genesis 1:1-2. It is an amazing work.

Here are some helpful YouTube videos by Pastor Max D. Younce refuting a Young Earth fallacy. Dr. Younce has written a very helpful free online book titled: "The Truth About Evolution; Or, Don't let Satan Make A Monkey Our Of You." In the book Pastor Younce does an excellent job proving that the earth is very old. Chapter 12 is very helpful, explaining "The Remodeling" in Genesis chapter one. I actually turned chapter 12 into a webpage, because it is such helpful information to prove an old earth.

In the early 1970's, Pastor Curtis Hutson (1934-1995) preached a series of Wednesday night Bible studies called: “DEMONOLOGY.” The ungodly movie “The Exorcist” was popular at the time, and he preached this series to educate people on demons. Dr. Hutson does an excellent job teaching the “GAP PRINCIPLE.” An old earth is not a “theory,” it is what the Bible teaches!

I believe that the earth itself is millions, if not billions of years old. Scientists tell us that dinosaurs lived 60,000,000 to 220,000,000 years ago. I believe that is true! However, I also believe that the human race is only 6,000 years old. I do NOT believe in evolution in any form. God spoke the universe into existence by the power of His Word (2nd Peter 3:5; Genesis 1:1). The earliest historical evidence of human civilization dates back to the Egyptian empire. Wikipedia actually dates Noah's flood at around 2,500 BC. Abraham lived around 2,000 BC. Egypt and Moses lived about 1,500 BC. The northern kingdom of Israel (capital was Samaria) fell to Assyria in 722 BC. King David lived about 1,000 BC. Babylon was a world power around 500 BC. The southern kingdom of Israel fell to Babylon in 586 BC.

So mankind didn't exist before 6,000 years ago. The Bible dates creation at about 4,000 BC. But I believe the earth existed long before that. Psalms 102:25, "Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands." Notice that the Bible says "OF OLD" God laid the foundations of the earth. This very by itself strongly suggests an Old Earth. That should keep you busy studying for awhile. Here is my "Evolution Hoax" webpage, which contains much information refuting a young earth, and teaching an old earth.

I heard Dr. Steve Pettit boasting in a Bob Jones University chapel sermon ('The Daily Platform,' #660 - 'The Biblical Position Regarding Creation') that the college has 23 teachers with PhD's in their science department, and not one of them believes in an Old Earth. That is really sad and tragic, that those professors are so ignorant of the Word of God. Steve Pettit erroneously titled his sermon: “The Biblical Position Regarding Creation,” because it is really Dr. Pettit's position! I also believe in a literal 6-day creation, but I believe God REMODELED the earth after a catastrophic event between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. There is an abundance of evidence to support an Old Earth, but nothing to support a Young Earth.

To accept a Young Earth position, you have to blindly ignore a lot of facts! For example: Where did the serpent (Satan - Revelation 20:2) come from in Genesis chapter one? If (as Dr. Steve Pettit insists), a literal 6-day creation absolutely means that the earth is less than 10,000 years old (which he says in the preceding BJU sermon), then where Mr. Smarty Pants did the serpent get created? Since the serpent was already present in the Garden of Eden, and there is no mention of God creating the angels, nor their fall from glory, it is logical theologically to conclude a Gap Principle. It is easy for ignorant clergy to glibly dismiss the Gap Principle, but it is not so easy when you actually study the Word of God.

Evangelist Ken Ham is a con artist, who makes about $37,000,000 a year promoting the heresy of a young earth. Kent Hovind and Henry Morris II are more con men, teaching a young earth hoax. Look how crazy young earth advocates are, claiming that Noah took baby dinosaurs with stunted growth onto the ark. That is ludicrous! Again, I do not believe in Evolution at all. Science and the Holy Bible agree! If you believe that dinosaurs roamed this earth 5,000 years ago, I feel sorry for you. I believe that the Genesis account of creation is factual. I believe that God literally created the world as we know it today in 6 literal days. But this in no way discredits the TRUTH that there was a GAP between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. It requires FAR MORE faith to accept the strange theories of a Young Earth, than it does to except the Bible's claim in Psalms 102:25a that “OLD OLD HAST THOU LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH.” Go look, that is exactly what the Bible teaches!!!

Ken Ham even has fire-breathing dragons on his religious clown circus in Kentucky called: "The Ark Encounter." The ark is actually a big rectangular warehouse building made out of cinder blocks, with boat design additions added to make it look like a boat. What a sad joke! It's not an ark! It has all the OSHA wiring, regulations, and requirements of a BUILDING, not an ark! Private investors funded it, with greedy intentions of making $4,000,000,000 over 10 years. They've actually made about half of that... 2 BILLION!!! I think it is sick, disgusting and a mockery of the Word of God (Matthew 24:37-39).
