Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall CALL upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
I used to wonder if I had enough faith to be saved. What if I didn’t have enough faith at the time I remember being saved? What if I didn’t get saved? How could I know if I had enough faith? How do you measure faith? I remember attending a revival meeting at our Baptist church in Chicago as a teenager, and I learned a wonderful truth which I have never forgotten. I will share it with you now. Let’s look at Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall CALL upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” What a precious promise from God! If we will only call upon the Lord Jesus for salvation, that is all the faith we need to be saved. How much faith do you need to be saved? ... JUST ENOUGH!
If you have “just enough” faith to put your trust in Jesus Christ, that’s all the faith that is required. As a matter of fact, the more doubt you have, the greater your faith if you simply act on the belief. If you have so much doubt that you WILL NOT believe on Christ, then you have a serious problem. However, if you have “JUST ENOUGH” faith to take God at His Word and obey the Bible, by believing THE GOSPEL, then you are doing exactly what God expects of you.
To “call upon” the name of the Lord simply means that you go to Jesus Christ to be saved,. Simply receive His death, burial and resurrection as full-payment for your sins. This is the 'GOOD NEWS' by which we are saved, “to save them that believe” (1st Corinthians 1:21b). Christ died, that's history; Christ died for me, that's salvation! John 20:31, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
Jesus never one time spoke of degrees of believing. Jesus simply told us to believe on Him. John 6:40, “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and BELIEVETH ON HIM, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” If you “believe” upon Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, that is all that matters. Do you believe Jesus can save you? Do you recognize yourself as a needy sinner? Do you believe you deserve to go to Hell because of your sins? Do you believe Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood to pay for your sins? Do you believe He was buried and raised up from the dead three days later? If that 'GOOD NEWS' is your only hope for eternal life, then you have it my friend! You are born-again into the Kingdom of God!
Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith. God will not save anyone who is trying to be saved, He will only save those who are trusting to be saved. Religion is man trying to reach God through human effort, but Christianity is God trying to reach man by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son on the cross. If you have “JUST ENOUGH” faith, to place your reliance in Christ's sacrifice on the cross as payment for your sins, you are saved! This is what Romans 10:13 teaches. You don’t need to spend countless hours worrying over whether or not you have enough faith. If you have “JUST ENOUGH” faith to “CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD,” that’s all the faith you need to be saved. Either you “believe” or you don’t. I believe!
