The Civil War Was Not Fought Over Slavery

Psalm 47:8, “God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.”

Everybody thinks that the Civil War was fought over slavery, but it wasn't. Abraham Lincoln even later said that if the south had not seceded, he had no intentions of freeing the slaves. Abraham Lincoln stated that his primary goal was to save the Union, and he would have preserved slavery if it meant maintaining the Union.

This is evident in his letter to Horace Greeley, where he emphasized that his paramount objective was not to free slaves but to restore the Union. The south messed up by trying to secede from the Union, which was their downfall.

Regarding Europe, they did not break business relations with the South due to an attack or rebellion; rather, the Confederacy attempted to use cotton diplomacy to coerce European nations into supporting their war effort by restricting cotton exports. However, this strategy ultimately failed as European countries sought alternative sources for cotton, leading to a decline in the Confederate economy.

As the old truthful adage goes: Hindsight is 20/20.
