2nd Corinthians 5:9-11, “Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.”
1st Thessalonians 4:6, “That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.”
I used to teach a very long time ago that Christians will only be rewarded in Heaven for the good that we do, but none of the bad things we do will ever be brought up. I was so WRONG!
In fact, as you just read from our text Scripture passages, God's children WILL be held accountable for the good AND OR BAD we have done in our fleshly body on earth. Carefully notice that the Bible doesn't say we will give account for “our sins”; but rather, for the “good or bad” done in our body. Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross, shedding His precious blood and dying a criminal's death for you and me. 2nd Corinthians 5:21, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Jesus (Who was 100% sinless), became as sin (which is what the brass beat into the shape of a serpent by Moses pictured in John 3:14), so that we who have no righteousness of our own, could be saved by God's imputed righteousness through faith alone in Jesus Christ!!! Amen and amen. Philippians 3:9, “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:”
Dear reader, all believers WILL be held accountable to our heavenly Father in eternity. Christ bore the heavy burden of our sins, so that we wouldn't have to by burning in Hell forever. I have heard many preachers falsely teach that believers won't be judged for our sins at the Judgment Seat of Christ. That is only half true! Yes, we won't be condemned for our sins (John 3:18; Romans 8:1). But we will be judged as God's redeemed children for our wrongs, and be rewarded accordingly (1st Corinthians 3:11-15).
Many believers will weep bitter tears of regret and sorrow at the Judgment Seat Of Christ. A few will shine as the stars forever (Daniel 12:3). No one in Heaven will stand as a shining example of what we all should have been, except Jesus Himself. The Bible teaches that there is no one today without sin in their life. You may do a good job of hiding your sins from others, but God sees your sins and they will be known in eternity. 1st Timothy 5:24, "Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after."
There are many people who have commit horrible crimes, but have never been caught by the police. Some would receive life in prison if the horrible things they have gotten away with were known. But you can be rest assured that in eternity God will recompense all men for their evil deeds, or good deeds (Romans 12:19-21). The only difference is, will your works be judged on the basis of being an unsaved sinner (John 8:24), or as a redeemed child of God (Revelation 14:13)? No one ever gets away with anything forever! Hebrews 4:13, “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
