Acts 15:1 and 24 “And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.” ...“Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:”
I was watching an intriguing TV show called “New Detectives.” A police investigator made an interesting statement. He said that sometimes “a lack of evidence” helps them to identify the killer. That statement immediately caught my attention. That is very interesting. I can understand how finding evidence at the scene of a crime could help identify the killer, but I never thought that A LACK OF EVIDENCE could help detectives find the killer!
I heard one detective in a different episode say that evildoers always leave something at the scene of a crime, and take something with them from the scene. But the evidence that some evildoers leave is NOTHING. Yes, a lack of evidence in itself can help to identify a killer. For example: When there is a homicide and police detectives notice that there's no signs of a break-in (damage to windows or doors), that lack of evidence suggests the killer may have been known to the victim(s), or may live in the same home. That is interesting!
Likewise dear reader, there are many false prophets in the world today, just as the Holy Bible said there would be (2nd Peter 2:1-3). The same lack of evidence that police use to identify a killer holds true for exposing false teachers. For example: Our text passage from Acts 15:1 says, “And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.” The Apostles responded through messengers (Silas and Barnabas) to say this: “Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:” The Apostles sent word that: WE DIDN'T TEACH YOU THAT GARBAGE!!!
It was the lack of Biblical commandment that identified these men from Judea as false teachers! Likewise, the Bob Jones University camp today are FALSE TEACHERS. On their website, BJU adds the unscriptural commandment to “repent and turn away from their sins” to be saved. The inspired and trustworthy King James Bible gives no such commandment. BJU president Steve Pettit foolishly adds to God's plan of salvation, complicating the Gospel by requiring that people run the race of living the Christian life:
“So when we talk about 'The Race,' what are we talking about? We're talking about beginning and salvation, and then running the race through pursuing holiness and ministry, and service to others. But then let me say, that number three: This race HAS TO be faithfully run to the finish! You HAVE TO finish. Salvation is not just a past reality—“I GOT SAVED,” but is a future destiny! The race is not completed until you cross the finish line at death. What is this race—it is the race as we are running as we are headed toward Heaven.” [emphasis added] (10:27) - Bob Jones University Teaches Lordship Salvation Lie!
“We run the race, we cross the finish line, and so what’s the prize? What is the award? Well, there are different viewpoints. Some would have the viewpoint that the awards are crowns in Heaven. But as I read the book of Hebrews and see the whole gist of the book and the flow of the book, I don’t believe its referring to crowns in Heaven. I think it is referring to Heaven itself.” (22:57) [emphasis added]“God's people HAVE TO continue in the faith! They MUST PERSEVERE, because perseverance is the testimony of the reality of your faith!” [emphasis added - 25:13) [emphasis added]
Dr. Steve Pettit adds a bunch of junk theology to God's simple plan of salvation which the Bible doesn't teach...
“You can't just speak about getting saved, and you accepted Christ, and then that's it! There is a justification; There is a sanctification; There's ultimately a glorification, and though there are three parts, they are all part of the whole, and you cannot separate them. In order for you to qualify for the award, you have to get into the race, you have to stay in the race, and you have to finish the race. If you want to win, you have to run to the end; and winning in the Christian life is everything, because if you lose—if you don't finish—you lose everything—you lose your SOUL. And so, the Christian race is the life of faith that begins, is run, and is finished when we cross over into Heaven!” [emphasis added] —Dr. Steve Pettit (“What Does It Mean To Run 'The Race'?” - 11:34)
Steve Pettit is s dangerous false teacher!!! He gives unbiblical commandment for BJU students and faculty to “run the race” of holiness and service to Christ in order to earn the “award” of “Heaven itself.” Those are his exact words! Mr. Pettit is an infidel who does not know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. There is NO WAY that such a man could be a child of God who grossly perverts the simplicity that is in Christ (2nd Corinthians 11:3-4). What saith the Scripture? ...
Where did Steve Pettit get the false idea that to get to Heaven a person must faithfully live a lifestyle of running a race? Where did Pettit get the false idea that you've got to cross the finish line while faithfully running the race to make it to Heaven? That is a works-based counterfeit plan of salvation, not the free grace Gospel taught in the Word of God.
What is God's simple plan of salvation? I'm so glad you asked friend. 1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” The Gospel (or, Good News) is threefold:
- Christ DIED on the cross for our sins.
- Christ was BURIED.
- Christ bodily RESURRECTED from the dead three days later.
Anybody who BELIEVES the Good News is born-again immediately, irrevocably and eternally. John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” The way of salvation is to simply BELIEVE. John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” Anyone who receives Christ's sacrifice on the cross as payment for their sins is saved. Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith.
What Steve Pettit and the BJU camp are preaching is NOT what God commands in the Bible. I am faithfully RUBUKING THEM SHARPLY as Titus 1:10-13 commands. Tragically they are not taking heed to THE TRUTH. They are not listening to the Holy Bible. You cannot show me anything in the Scripture about running a race to be saved. Steve Pettit corrupts Hebrews 12:1-3 to mean that we must run the race which is set before every saint to be guaranteed Heaven. Nothing could be further from the truth.
As is true of all false teachers, Mr. Pettit ignores the plain teaching of the entire Gospel of John. John 20:31, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” The Bible is so clear and simple. Again and again we are taught that the way of salvation is to simply BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST (Acts 16:30-31). ...
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
The lack of evidence in the Scriptures to support the damnable heresies of Bob Jones University (BJU), Steve Pettit, Marty Herron, Gary Walton, Harvest Baptist Church on Guam, Chuck Phelps, Sam Horn, John MacArthur and other infidels PROVES that they are false prophets (Matthew 7:15).
