Deuteronomy 5:11, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
If every time the Lord's name was taken in vain in a Hollywood movie, were to be added up accumulatively each day around the world, I dare say it would amount to ONE BILLION times! Countless popular movies like Doom, First Blood, The Abyss, Alien and thousands more films, repeatedly curse in God's holy name. Many movies incessantly take the Lord's holy name in vain a few dozen times just in one film. if you were to keep tally on all those times, multiplied by all the television screens around the world watching those same ungodly movies each day, you'd likely hear the Lord's name blasphemed ONE BILLION times per day.
Our text passage of Scripture warns that God will not hold anyone guiltless that takes His name in vain. In vain simply means in a meaningless and irreverent way. I am shocked by some of the ungodly phrases I hear coming out of Hollywood; such as “Jesus [expletive] Christ.” Or, “Holy [expletive]” Sometimes they refer to the Lord as “Jesus H. Christ,” which is sinful blasphemy. The United States is a very sinful and wicked society. Wickedness is deliberate sin. Hollywood deliberately takes the Lord's name in vain all the time. In fact, about 97% of their movies curse in the Lord's name. This is proof of God's existence. Why do sinful men feel the compulsion to continually blaspheme the name of God almighty?
Deuteronomy 5:11, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” Hollywood has much blood on their hands. Movie directors' Ridley Scott, Jim Cameron and Steven Spielberg are the biggest perpetrators of the slander: “God damn!” These blasphemous words are heard in all of the Jurassic Park series. These sinful words are heard in all of the Alien series. Deuteronomy 5:11, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
Hollywood makes light of sin! Actors get paid money to lay on top of each other, kiss and do what only legally married people should do in the privacy of their bedroom. They are blaspheming the Word of God in more ways than just cursing in his holy name. And now sodomy and lesbianism saturates Hollywood and Walt Disney's films. God's judgment won't sleep forever. A day of reckoning is coming! Hollywood actors all know that to “make it big” in the movie business, the clothes much come off, and actors are expected to debase themselves. In the 1997 ungodly movie Starship Troopers, the actors were required to strip down butt naked to be filmed for the movie. Director Paul Verhoeven also stripped down to his birthday suit (the suit you were wearing when you came out of your mother's womb). Paul Verhoeven did this to make the other actors (especially the females) not feel so awkward.
Dear reader (and God knows that I mean this), if a Hollywood producer were to offer me $1,000,000,000 to take the Lord's name in vain, in just one film, just one time, I wouldn't do it. You mean you'd pass up one billion dollars, and all you'd need to do is curse in God's name just one time? Yes I'd turn down the offer. I would tell them I am not interested. It's just money! Proverbs 1:10, “My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.”
Most people would rationalize (like Eve did when temped by the serpent) that a billion dollars could be used to further the Gospel. Think of all the churches that could be helped. What saith the Scripture? Deuteronomy 5:11, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” It is never right to do wrong, in order to get a chance to do right. If we have to take the Lord's name in vain (which is terrible wrong), to get a chance to help people (with blood money from doing wrong), then we ought not do anything wrong in the first place. We ought never sell and compromise ourselves. Proverbs 15:16, “Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.” Proverbs 16:8, “Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.”
I cringe every time that I hear someone take my dear Savior's name in vain. I admittedly like watching the Jurassic Park movie series. I also like the Star Trek movie series by atheist Gene Roddenberry. William Shatner (aka, Captain Kirk from Iowa, also an atheist) repeatedly curses in the Lord's name in the movie. I hold my ears when that part of the movie comes, because I don't want to hear ungodly people cursing my precious God's name. I literally place my hands over my ears sometimes, because I don't want to hear it.
Roaring tyrannosauruses don't bother me, but hearing sinners blasphemy my God does. If you are a better Christian than me, and don't watch Hollywood movies at all, then good for you friend!!! I like science-fiction films, but I am frustrated that they often take God's name in vain. Deuteronomy 5:11, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
