Set Your Affection On Things Above

Colossians 3:1-3, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”

The world is in a mess today because the world is full of unsaved people who have never been regenerated by the Holy Spirit of God. They have never been born anew into God's family. They are still hellbound in their sins without Jesus Christ. They need to GET SAVED! Sin has turned our world into a giant insane asylum. We have seen massive violent riots nationwide in June of 2020, a consequence of the cruel torture and murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. ...

But there's another big problem in our world, and that is born-again believers who have their affection (heart and mind) set on the temporal things of this earthly life. Preachers don't preach anymore! The average Baptist pastor doesn't preach on Hell once every two years. I am discouraged with professed Christians today, who are indifferent toward the Bible-revision nightmare in America. Literally, the Devil has published hundreds of English Bible revisions, resulting in much confusion and divisiveness in the churches. Sadly, this includes independent Baptist churches, which used to be citadels of Christendom, but today have in many cases become religious cults, preaching the heresy of Lordship Salvation. Even worse, the modern Bible revisions pervert the Gospel, which Bob Jones University, Moody Bible Institute, and hundreds of other apostate religious institutions sanction. What is wrong with professed Christians today? God only authored ONE BOOK, not two, certainly not hundreds.

The problem is that professed Christians merely follow what their religious leaders (often incompetent) teach them, instead of to “SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES” as the Lord commanded in John 5:39a. Psalms 119:104, “Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.” I hate the Devil's corrupt modern Bible revisions. I hate the Devil's heresy of Lordship Salvation. I hate the Devil's false religions. The reason why I hate these evils is because I “SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES.” The Bereans didn't just believe what the apostle Paul preached to them, they went to “SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES” to verify it, and Paul commended them for it. Acts 17:11, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

Set Your Affection On Things Above!

Kindly, I don't write blog articles just to write blog articles, I want to share THE TRUTH with you in my blog writings, by God's grace, prayerfully desiring for God to change your thinking and life. My heart's desire is to win lost sinners to the Lord, and to lead saved sinners to faithfully serve Christ as a soulwinning Christian. Something is very wrong with a professed Christian—a Bible college graduate, who works on staff at a church they faithfully attend, who professes to love the Lord—but they are indifferent toward THE TRUTH. What is it about us as human beings that makes us so stubborn to recognize and admit when we are wrong? I have learned that facts don't change people's minds, love does! Jude 1:22, “And of some have compassion, making a difference:”

Dear reader, is your affection set on things above? If it is, you should care about what the Holy Bible says more than what your religious leader says. Psalms 119:104, “Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.” If you are struggling with sin, welcome to the human race! The apostle Paul admitted his ongoing struggle with the flesh in Romans 7:14-25. I receive many emails from people, confiding in me that they are struggling with sin in their daily life. I always encourage them to start attending a Bible-preaching church (if not already), and to get into the Word of God (King James Bible), and listen to lots of fundamental Bible-preaching. Psalms 119:9, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” I love that Scripture!!! My friend, if you'll give God your heart, He'll comb the kinks out of your head!!!

The Bible doesn't say to merely HEAR the Word of God, but to HEED the Word of God. You can hear the Bible all day long, but it will not benefit you until you TAKE HEED and obey what God has commanded. Hebrews 4:2b says the Hebrews in the Wilderness heard the Gospel preached unto them for 40 years, “but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” James 1:22-23, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:”

I don't care how messed up your life may seem, God will put it back together, if you'll simply do things HIS WAY instead of yours...

Search the Scriptures and memorize some helpful passages. Psalms 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” When temptations arise, the Scripture that you memorize will help you. If you have difficulty memorizing Scripture, then listen to the Bible every day. And it is VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ONLY USE THE KING JAMES BIBLE! One of the reasons why the Devil keeps publishing new Bible revisions (there are literally hundreds today in the English language) is to discourage people from memorizing the Bible. If Satan can get you to doubt the inspired Word of God, he has destroyed your confidence in God. Please use ONLY the inspired and trustworthy King James Bible!!! All of the modern Bible revisions have been tampered with and corrupted.

We all need Bible preaching to help us THINK RIGHT! Pray and ask God to create a proper attitude and a clean heart in you as the psalmist David did. Psalms 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” We used to sing a popular song on the church bus. The lyrics went... “Read your Bible, pray every day, and you'll grow, grow, grow; neglect your Bible, forget to pray, and you'll shrink, shrink, shrink!” It is really that simple. Which ever dog you feed will become the stronger dog! We are what we think! Jesus said in Matthew 12:34b, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” So we have to guard our thought life continually. That is what the Bible means in Proverbs 4:23, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Churchianity Versus Christianity

Jesus is already in Heaven waiting for us. In John 14:1-3 He promised to go prepare a place for us in Heaven. Jesus promised in John 16:22 that no man will ever take away our joy again. What a glorious day that will be! We all have been hurt by people. I have been deeply hurt by other professed Christians, especially at the Harvest Baptist Church on Guam (HBC), who have rejected and ostracized me from coming back to church since 2015. Psalms 109:4, “For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.” 

The fastest way to lose friends and make enemies is to simply tell THE TRUTH. The apostle Paul knew that same pain of rejection well. Galatians 4:16, “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” Their minds and hearts at Harvest (i.e., the Bob Jones University camp on Guam) are set upon the temporal things of this life (i.e., making money, paying the bills, running their religious school, and promoting Christianity as a business model). 

Sadly, truth is not important to the folks at Harvest, otherwise they would embrace a truth-teller like my in love and compassion, as I have begged from them since 2015. I am torn between my love for God and truth, and desperate need for a local church family. No man should have to choose between the two, but the reason why is because HBC on Guam don't have their affection set on things above. I sincerely love them at Harvest with God's unconditional love, but they don't love Jesus, for if they did THE TRUTH would be of paramount importance to them. Jesus is precious!!!
