She Hath Done What She Could

Mark 14:8, “She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.”

What a tremendous statement the Lord made concerning this dear woman—SHE HATH DONE WHAT SHE COULD! I love that! This woman came with a very expensive offering of spikenard. Today this oil is not as expensive, but it was in ancient times, being important from India and the Himalayas. An “Alabaster Box” is a gift box! This dear women brought a care package to our blessed Savior! She took the very precious spikenard oil and poured on Jesus' head as a gesture of love and appreciation. What a great thing she did!
Mark 14:3, “And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
But as is almost always the case, there were some wicked people watching, who criticized the woman, berating her for wasting money, instead of giving it to the poor.
Mark 14:4-5, “And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence [$45 to $60], and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
Our wonderful Lord doesn't sit idle while His friends are being attacked and complained about. The Lord is a friend at midnight! Jesus spoke up and defended this dear woman, telling her self-righteous critics [internet trolls today] to SHUT UP!
Mark 14:6-9, “And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
I love the Lord's way of thinking—money doesn't take priority over people! Truly, the greatest things in life aren't things. The Lord didn't defend her because He though Himself worthy of her worship; but rather, the Lord knew that this woman needed to honor the Lord. I decided to allow comments in my new ministry blog. I did it for my blog visitors, so they can interact and discuss the topics being presented. I was thinking of OTHERS!

I love what the Lord said—SHE HATH DONE WHAT SHE COULD! There are so many beautiful truths contained in this precious statement:
  1. God understands that Christians are just human and limited in what we can do.
  2. The Lord doesn't expect more from us than what we can do.
  3. God rewards us according to what we do with what He gives us.
  4. We should all do what we can to honor and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
  5. God will plead our cause if we do what we can for Him.
  6. Someone will always criticize us when we honor Jesus and serve God.
  7. The Lord is fully aware of our efforts and sacrifice for Him.
The Lord lovingly said: SHE HATH DONE WHAT SHE COULD!
