Jesus Is Our Sabbath Today

In the Old Testament, God had instituted temporary ceremonial laws, which taught the Hebrews spiritual truths. God's command for men to work 6-days a week represents man attempting to merit eternal life through human effort. On the Sabbath Day, which was a ceremonial law, no work was done, which taught that salvation is completely through God's righteousness. Salvation is pictured by men ceasing from their own works, and instead resting in God's righteousness on the Sabbath. The Sabbath was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14-16).

Today, Jesus is the fulfillment of the Sabbath Day, because Jesus is our Sabbath in Whom we rest for salvation. Amen! This is what Hebrews 4:10-11 is talking about. We are saved by completely resting in Jesus Christ. Hebrews 4:10-11, “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” The Bible is speaking about Jesus, Who is our Sabbath today.

The only “work” that we can do to be saved is to run to Jesus as our Savior. We do this by believing that Jesus is Who He claimed to be... THE CHRIST! John 20:31, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” Believe the Good News of Christ crucified and risen! John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

There is absolutely nothing that we can do to save ourselves, or even help save ourselves. We are all dirty, filthy, guilty sinners, in need of the blessed Savior. Jesus paid our debt of sin. Christ paid a debt that He did not owe, because we owed a debt that we could not pay. Praise God, JESUS PAID IT ALL!!! If you'll simply receive the GOOD NEWS of Christ crucified, buried and risen as full-payment for your sins, you are saved. Jesus became the fulfillment of what the Sabbath Day symbolized. Romans 10:3-4, “For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”

In the Old Testament there were about 720 laws! Jesus Christ is the END of the law, to everyone that believes! Unless a person keeps the whole Law, all 720, the Bible says they are “cursed. Paul makes this clear in writing to the Galatians. “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the CURSE: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” (Galatians 3:10). Therefore, all men are CURSED before they are saved! The moment that a person trusts Jesus as their personal Savior, they're no longer under the curse of the LAW, they are then and forever under God's saving GRACE through faith in Christ Jesus!!!
