Alcohol Has Never Done Any Good

Proverbs 20:1, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.“”

Alcohol has never built a home, mended a broken marriage, or restored a relationship. In every way, alcohol is a public menace! Alcoholism statistics show that binge drinking has become a serious problem in the United States:
“When one looks at the numbers of people who chose to have a binge drinking experience, the numbers are even more alarming. Over 29% of women and 43% of men chose to binge drink when they drank in the past year.” —Family Alcoholism Statistics
According to the National Highway Traffic And Safety Administration (NHTSA), 30 people die every day in the United States:
“Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that's one person every 50 minutes. These deaths have fallen by a third in the last three decades; however, drunk-driving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year. In 2010, the most recent year for which cost data is available, these deaths and damages contributed to a cost of $44 billion that year.” Drunk Driving
Oh foolish Americans! Drinking alcohol is a fool's game of Russian Roulette! I thank God that I have never drank a drop of alcohol in my life! I don't know what it feels like to get drunk, nor to recover from a hangover. I have no curiosity or desire to find out either! I like to call alcoholic beverages “BOOZE,” which is what Evangelist Billy Sunday rightly called it, giving alcohol its much deserved negative connotations. Albeit, I do not condemn other sinners, for I am the biggest sinner I know; gratefully redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. I did not write this article to hurt anybody's feelings, nor to judge anyone; but rather, to try to preach some sense into this generation. 

I live on Guam, where our street poles are 3 foot thick concrete! When I used to live in Chicago, where I was born in 1967 and lived until 2004, I saw several dozen street poles knocked down from drunk drivers crashing into them. Drunks were a BIG PROBLEM! However, the street poles in Chicago are about 8 inches thick, held in place by inch thick bolts on the ground. It doesn't take much for a heavy car to knock one of those street poles down. But on Guam, you die, because the concrete poles don't budge a centimeter! Consequently, in the 15 years I have lived on Guam, I have literally seen about 100 flower displays set by those concrete poles, in remembrance of loved ones who died there. Granted, not all of them were the result of booze, but MOST were!  

I was sad last year to see the local K-mart on Guam change owners, because the new owners have turned K-mart into a giant liquor store. When I was a child in the 1970's, I remember that ALL stores (whether bars or grocery stores) only sold booze in brown paper bags, to set a good example for the children. Even drunks held their Vodka bottles in brown paper bags. Sadly, all innocence is gone today, and businesses openly promote, display and sell booze. Guam has a big problem with drunk drivers and alcoholism, as does every major city in the United States. I am not condemning anybody, I am simply encouraging others to avoid alcohol. There are so many great beverages to consume, without guzzling beer. If the truth be known, a lot of people intentionally want to get buzzed and drunk!

Did you know that alcohol by nature is a narcotic, a Schedule II drug. To my understanding, “Schedule I means that a drug has a medical purpose, but Schedule II means that a drug has no medical purpose. What hypocrisy! Millions of Americans are rotting in prisons for abusing prescription drugs, while the rest of society abuses the drug alcohol. Personally, I do not think the government has any business outlawing drugs of any sort! That is not their function. The purpose of government is to protect citizen's person, property and liberty. It's not the government's job to feed the poor, educate children or make sure women get the same jobs as men. I humbly believe that America is headed for a police state, as a result of sin undermining our society as a whole! 

The problem is not that booze should be outlawed, but that it has become a Madison Avenue product, sold and promoted extensively by corporate America. The Holy Bible teaches that the LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil (1st Timothy 6:10). The wealthy families which produce millions of gallons a year of booze, are not held accountable. The most ridiculous cliche ever invented was: Drink Responsibly!” Can you image if your doctor prescribed a powerful drug to you, and told you to take it “responsibly without setting any limits? How would you know how much to take? How many pills is “responsible”? When people drink alcohol, they just have a good time and guzzle the drug booze! 

Did you know that getting drunk is a sin? 1st Corinthians 6:9-10 lists “drunkenness as one of the sins that keep sinners out of the Kingdom of God. 1st Corinthians 6:9-10, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.I love verse 11, And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” The moment we get saved, all of our sins (past, present and future) are washed away by Jesus' blood. Our POSITION in Jesus Christ is settled, as a child of God, based solely upon God's faithfulness; however, our CONDITION in Christ depends upon our faithfulness to God. Many Christians misunderstand this Bible passage, fearing that they can lose salvation, but that is not what the Bible is teaching. The only sin that can keep a sinner out of Heaven is unbelief, which is the only unpardonable sin. 

Alcohol has never built a happy and healthy family, but it has destroyed tens of millions! Alcohol has never repaired a struggling marriage, but it has caused millions of divorces and widows. Booze ruins marriages and relationships. I am 53 years old as of March 5th, 2020. I have lived long enough to watch American society wax worse and worse. Alcohol is truly PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE!!! In the late 1980's, I watched a mechanic co-worker run a knife right through his hand, while cutting a piece of radiator hose, because he had been drinking booze. That same man crashed his pickup truck while drunk, injuring his friend in the passenger's seat, which resulted in a $19,000 lawsuit. The judge had his paychecks garnished until the damages were paid. While growing up, I saw multiple neighbor's wives with black and blue faces, beaten badly by their drunkard husbands. Oh how sin thrills and then it kills! Oh how sin fascinates and then it assassinates! The Devil is a beautiful liar!!!

Truly, alcohol is a LIQUID DEVIL!!! The best advice on alcohol you'll ever hear is this—YOU CAN'T TAKE TWO DRINKS, IF YOU DON'T TAKE THE FIRST!!! Amen!

  1. Right! If you want your non-drinking spouse hate you and fall out of love on you, take the first drink of bottle and lie to her/him when you get home that you didn't take the shecond, third, pourth, pifth.... bottle.😠
