Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Luke 13:23-24, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”
Every parent remembers funny things that their kids said when they were young. As a young boy I remember often walking with my mother to the grocery store in Chicago. When I grew up she would sometimes reminds me of something funny I said one day. We were walking through the park one day and I saw a dog. I was about 6 or 7 years old and I said: “Look Mom, that dog has no man!” That is funny. You see, I was so used to seeing dogs on a leash with their owner, that when I saw a stray dog I thought it strange not to see a man. Children are very honest! My mother was born in 1935, and went to be with Jesus in 2001.
I thought about that funny thing today, that my mother remembered me saying as a small boy. Then I realized that I could use it for a spiritual application. So often humans get used to thinking a certain way, even if it is way wrong. There are several Scripture passages which address thinking wrong, and the consequences. Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” I have been watching some very interesting YouTube videos. One was from the popular '1,000 Ways To Die' television series. A woman who was aging wanted to restore her beauty. So she had read something interesting on the internet, about injecting corn oil into her face. She tried it. The corn oil caused massive blood clots, which travelled to her heart and killed her.
Dear friend, the same thing happens to religious people all the time. They read something interesting on the internet, or read an intriguing book, or hear something that sounds good from a preacher, so the end up being woefully deceived by the Devil. Luke 13:23-24, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” The preceding Bible verses show us that wrong thinking can be eternally fatal. The folks in Luke 13:23-24 missed out on going to Heaven, but they thought they would go to Heaven. Can you imagine? How does that happen? I mean, how can somebody have the mindset that they are going to Heaven, but then die and actually be sent to Hell instead?
Let's read another applicable Scripture passage. Matthew 7:21-25, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”
Dear friend, have you built your hope for eternal life upon the sand? The heresy of Lordship Salvation is a house of cards! It will come toppling down in a second when the wind of death blows. Lordship Salvation is built upon the sand. Sand washes away when the tide comes in. A house built upon sand has no foundation at all. My hope is build on the Solid Rock of Jesus Christ! 1st Peter 2:7-8, “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.”
The Jews rejected Jesus, tossing Him aside like a useless stone. But the Bible says that seemingly insignificant stone became the very cornerstone on the foundation. What is a cornerstone? When building anything, the most important thing is getting started. If you start crooked, you'll finish crooked. You want a level house. You don't want things rolling across the floor because your home is on a slope! So the correct way to build is to start off with a level cornerstone, that is measured accurately and true. Then everything that follows with be accurate and true. Jesus is the foundation of Christianity. 1st Corinthians 3:11, “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Look Mom, Bob Jones University Has No Gospel
I get very frustrated and sad when I think about what has spiritually happened to Bob Jones University over the past 50 years. BJU went from at one time being the citadel of Christian Fundamentalism in America, to being a cesspool of iniquity and theological heresy. Their founder, Dr. Bob Jones Sr. (1883-1968) preached an accurate Free Grace Gospel. Dr. Bob Jones Sr. fully understood that the gift of eternal only comes wrapped in the package of Jesus. If you don't want Jesus, then you cannot receive the gift.
In sharp contrast, Dr. Steve Pettit (who has been the president of BJU since 2014) is preaching ANOTHER GOSPEL (2nd Corinthians 11:3-4) of partial faith in Christ plus works. Dr. Pettit insists in his preaching that you cannot merely get saved in an instant, and then that's it! He says MORE is required if you want to obtain the award of Heaven. Read for yourself Dr. Pettit's own heretical words, spoken on January 26, 2015 during chapel to 2,700 students and faculty at Bob Jones University...
“You can't just speak about getting saved, and you accepted Christ, and then that's it! There is a justification; There is a sanctification; There's ultimately a glorification, and though there are three parts, they are all part of the whole, and you cannot separate them. In order for you to qualify for the award, you have to get into the race, you have to stay in the race, and you have to finish the race. If you want to win, you have to run to the end; and winning in the Christian life is everything, because if you lose—if you don't finish—you lose everything—you lose your SOUL. And so, the Christian race is the life of faith that begins, is run, and is finished when we cross over into Heaven!” [emphasis added] —Dr. Steve Pettit (“What Does It Mean To Run 'The Race'?” - 11:34)
Dr. Pettit heretically says that the “award” is “Heaven itself”...
“We run the race, we cross the finish line, and so what’s the prize? What is the award? Well, there are different viewpoints. Some would have the viewpoint that the awards are crowns in Heaven. But as I read the book of Hebrews and see the whole gist of the book and the flow of the book, I don’t believe its referring to crowns in Heaven. I think it is referring to Heaven itself.” [emphasis added] —Dr. Steve Pettit (“What Does It Mean To Run 'The Race'?” - 22:57)
Just as I was thinking as a boy that every dog is supposed to have a man, so also does Bob Jones University today think that you must turn away from your sin to be saved. That is not the Gospel. Repentance is “a change of mind” (Greek: metanoia) toward the truth. 2nd Timothy 2:25-26, “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” Do you see clearly dear reader, that repentance is not turning from one's sins; but rather, acknowledging THE TRUTH that you are a guilty sinner. Romans 3:19-20, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
The Old Testament LAW was given by God as a measuring stick, to give humanity the knowledge that we are all guilty sinners in need of redemption. The law brings us to CHRIST to be saved by God's grace (Galatians 3:24-26). Repentance is agreeing with God that we are guilty sinners in need of the blessed Savior. Acts 20:21, “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Repentance is not from sin, it is toward God.
But don't you have to turn “from” something in order to turn “to” something? Yes, you are turning from your dead works. Hebrews 6:1, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God...” Carefully notice that the Bible doesn't say to “turn from your sins,” it sins dead works. Hebrews 4:10-11, “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” Dead works includes good works as well as bad works.
Turning from one's sins would be considered a good work. Romans 3:20, “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Could the Bible be any plainer? I think not. We get saved by placing our confidence (faith) in Jesus Christ, which automatically includes repenting (ceasing from our dead works). This is such a wonderful, amazing and important truth dear friends! God took great care, as did the 54 King James translators handling His inspired Words in 1611, to put “DEAD WORKS” in Hebrews 6:1. Dead works includes all works (good and bad alike), because as Romans 3:20 teaches—no man can be justified by works in God's sight.
Look Mom, Harvest Baptist Church On Guam Has No Bible
Now I am going to shock and disgust you theologically. Here is a comparison between the infallible King James Bible, and the corrupt Easy-To-Read Version (ERV) that the Harvest Baptist Church on Guam uses. ...
KING JAMES BIBLE (KJB) — Hebrews 6:1, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.” [emphasis added]
As you can see, there is a night and day difference between the ERV and the King James Bible. Things that are different are not the same! The translators of the modern Bible revisions have blood on their hands! Jeremiah 23:36b, “for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.” By using, selling and sanctioning the Devil's modern Bible revisions, and by adopting the Devil's false plan of Lordship Salvation, Bob Jones University and the Harvest Baptist Church on Guam are pulling on the same rope as the Devil. 2nd John 1:11, “For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” I agree with God's Word, so my preaching will be justified in eternity (Romans 3:4).EASY-TO-READ VERSION (ERV) — “So we should be finished with the beginning lessons about Christ. We should not have to keep going back to where we started. We began our new life by turning away from the evil we did in the past and by believing in God.” [emphasis added]
So please make sure you use only the infallible King James Bible. And, please make sure you are trusting Jesus alone for your salvation, and not adding “turning from your sin” also, which is a work that cancels faith. It is all so simple. God authored only ONE BOOK! There is only ONE SAVIOR. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1-3, 14; Revelation 19:13). Jesus is the Living Word; the Bible is the Written Word. Dr. John R. Rice (1895-1980) called them “twins.” Jesus is the Word of God incarnate (made flesh). Why do you think the Devil has published hundreds of English Bible versions? It is to obscure Jesus, by confusing everyone, diminishing the importance of right doctrine, and quenching people's faith in an infallible Bible. To attack the Word of God is to attack the only begotten Son of God.
